Test for Server Change
Hi all!
for our beloved C4F to stay as it is, it needs to change again. This time it's the server infrastructure at Strato, which is still owned by Luques currently. However, the current server is quite expensive, and Luques indicated that he thinks someone else should take it over. The alternative we're currently exploring is a virtual server from IONOS (formerly 1&1 in Germany). What are the differences?
- a virtual server is cheaper than a dedicated server, but for our purposes it should be sufficient
- the new server is not a managed server, which means some more responsibility for the admin, but also higher flexibility
- the main difference is that it's significantly cheaper
We've already setup an account, prepared the server to run C4F, copied game data from a few days ago, copied profiles and jerseys and it already seems to be running fine.
We're now inviting the community to help us to verify, if everything is working fine and to see, if the server can also handle a few more users and if the hardware is already sufficient or we'll need a bigger server package from IONOS.
To do so, we'll prepare a world championship (so it's two tests in one) on the test environment, the race itself is yet to be designed. As it's a world championship, there'll be a national team selection process based on the results of the last season. All riders will have form settings as in the real game currently. For date and time of that test you can vote in a poll here or suggest another time.
The (temporary) address of the new server is https://exciting-archimedes.217-154-242-133.plesk.page/

Re: Test for Server Change
Virtual Server is surely the better option now. Unfortunately I have no experience with any commercial services sind no idea about the resources the game needs.
Re: Test for Server Change
I also don't really know, but the new test server has some nice monitoring features. So a test will show, if it's enough. An upgrade will be easily possible, if it's not enough.
Re: Test for Server Change
We're planning to do both an ITT and a road race as test world championships. Anybody here wants to design those races? The idea is to have medium length races, e.g. 180km road race (8 riders / team) and 30 or 40km ITT (2 riders / team), so it won't take as long as a real world championship. As an incentive for winning, we're planning to take over the jerseys and palmares entry to the real C4F.
The race should be designed in the test version (that would be another test).

if its the only this year maybe Ruanda like the orignial?
Re: Test for Server Change
We're planning to have the real one on the real date. This is the test for it, so we ideally ride a different race.bergwerk cycling wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 9:58 pmif its the only this year maybe Ruanda like the orignial?

How is determined which nation is managed by whom?

Re: Test for Server Change
Team selection starts today at noon (CEST). You can see the order of selection in Statistics -> Users -> Selection From. Countries can be selected in Statistics -> Countries. The order is determined by last month's rankings, so Poke can go first.Drunkenbolds wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 12:28 amlooking forward to this!!

Re: Test for Server Change
When I go to statistics --> users, I don't get a 'selection' tab. Is this because I'm not eligible, or is something wrong here?
Re: Test for Server Change
You go on statistic -> countries -> click on a country you want -> there is a button to select that country (currently logged tillyou can select)

Re: Test for Server Change

Here are the profiles for my fantasy WC. They are a work in progress, a 191km Willunga Hill circuit, and a 43km Adelaide ITT. I will still need to work on percents in the test editor, but these give the general idea.
Re: Test for Server Change
Where can I see the Profil?
What are the % of the final kms?

Re: Test for Server Change
No need to make the ITT very hilly, it's a race for pure TT specialists not climbers.ECS Cycling wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 4:21 pm

"All riders will have form settings as in the real game currently." - really?
Do I understand that correctly - you can then see the current form of the Giro opponents?
when does it take place now, only tue 20.00?

Re: Test for Server Change

here's the final version of the road race.
I just put the race in the race editor, so you can view it there, the final kms are 2% and 3%
Okay, I can redesign then.cataracs wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 11:34 pmNo need to make the ITT very hilly, it's a race for pure TT specialists not climbers.ECS Cycling wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 4:21 pm

Re: Test for Server Change
Let me know when you're done, as I still need to do a manual change in the DB to mark the race as world championship.
Re: Test for Server Change
From my 3-person experiment: test server is not available in Belgium...

Re: Test for Server Change
@Alk, in Belgium we all get the same notification:

When I press details it tells pretty much the same. Tried clearing cache among other things but did nothing... Other Belgians running into the same issue.

Re: Test for Server Change
It works on a VPN. So it's definitely a country issue, website is not available in Belgium...
