Tour de Sarthe

Instead of Pais Vasco the squad wanted to give Peter the chance to have some sprinting days in April due to his stage win and points jersey at De Panne. Though the manager was too busy with other stuff and forgot to put in the sprint twice, haha. Well, last stage Peter with a fair chance but he carries all the other sprinters in his wheel and ends up 3rd. Ernie Oysters though was able to win the climbers classement. Next up: Uhm, what was next up?

van Amstel takes semi-classics: Brabantse Pijl!

In an interesting race with many different kinds of riders, all with their own weaknesses and strengths, it was Tom van Amstel to take his first important victory, by now with 29 years of age. His third stage win was at the belgian semi-classic Brabantse Pijl which he won from Hans Peter Heuser's wheel on the final ascent. During 10-15kms, about 40kms from the finale, the server went down and gladly Barney was in tempo already so the race was still open. It was then the attack by Karim and Ernie - followed by Quick-Stepper Ivashkin - who attacked about 20kms from the finish line to force Rockclimbers and Deuseburger into work. Deuseburger quite asleep didn't take advantage of pavés-god Daniel Schoonraad and never siebed at the last 4*. Else van Amstel might have been dropped since he is not a pavés wunderkind. Good for us, so finally we could take the 2nd good victory since a long time (after Peter won the final stage of De Panne). Belgian seems to be Lizard country, and maybe we get back on the track finally!

Stockdale takes 3rd stage of Trentino

Incredible. Once the Lizard is not sitting in front of the desktop and another team is sitting us it works. Because of a (well, probably^^) great sitter-performance by US Lecce Stockdale was able to win his first stage ever at Trentino taking over the general classement before the last stage. Thanks a lot for taking over the team in a short time span!

Stockdale takes overall at Trentino

Giro 2011, here we come! After a great sitting-day by Lecce on the last stage Andrew Stockdale was able to defend the yellow jersey by entering the finish line with the first group. After a calm race where many could've challenged our squad and no one actually tried Eddy led up the main group on the final ascent. After Kahlo's attack he fell back into group 2 though Stockdale was able to follow and defend the jerseys (young riders' classement aswell). Eddy only as a helper managed to end 5th in the general. What a great tour, two years after Herbert Königsbauer - team legend - got 2nd in the Trentino overall.

Ardennes week

Strong Wizards at the Ardennes weak. At Amstel Gold Race with van Amstel as the captain we were able to win the sprint out of the big group... but right behind a duo to take the win. Argh! Fleche Wallonne not ridden because of Trentino, turned out to be a good decision since Stockdale won the race. At Lüttich-Bastogne-Lüttich the Wizards again with chances, unfortunately the group was not able to manage their options correctly. The teams with stronger riders were too late at changing from pullers to leaders, afterwards the good cooperation wasn't enough to take the time given by the peloton to make the group get through. van Amstel again was strong and wins the sprint in his final group in Ans, Eickendreyer (our predestined captain for the race) managed to win the bunch sprint. All sprints won but never first group. It sucks!

van Amstel takes his stage on first chance

Today the Lizards were sitted by Berlin Marks, and it seems after US Lecce's sitting at Trentino that the Lizard himself should stop riding for his own team and let others do the job because a great performance made it possible for Tom to take his first huge victory, a stage win at the Giro d'Italia! We are soooo happy Tomorrow might be though difficult, from 16h seminar at university... again a sitter needed? Oh boy...

Between Giro and the team's future

With 4 stage wins (2x van Amstel, 1x Stockdale, 1x Stinson) and position 7 in the general classement the Giro d'Italia was very successful. Nevertheless the team started with 551.070 credits salary, way too much to even the score. Andrew Stockdale unfortunately had to leave the squad, a new flat rider joined today.

van Amstel continues winning at Tour of Luxembourg

Today Tom van Amstel was able to take his 6th stage win. After two victories at the Giro d'Italia he could win the 3rd stage in Luxembourg on the way to Differdange. Even though starting to win races quite late in his career Tom is by now on the way to become the strongest classic rider in our team this year. He will also wear the points' jersey tomorrow.

No Tour de France for Eddy and Peter

The Tour de France will again not be ridden by Wizards Cycling. Unfortunately for the 5th time since the team exists we will not participate at the most important race in cycling because.. wait for it.. I'm having fucking holidays in fucking great netherlands. So suck my balls France! Amsterdam for the win!

Yes, I would really like to have some more races with Eddy vs. Omar and Fabulous vs. Peter (obviously the coolest riders called first here)! But no prob, we will have more chances, especially Omar and Eddy not too old, whilst Fabulous could retire sooner. Nevertheless, first up TdS anyways, and yeah again on the way to Schaffhausen, feels like home to me

Oranje boven! De toenemende ster strikes back: van Amstel is world champion!

It is unbelievable! We really set the form on 100 for the 23.06. but never expected Tom to have a slight chance against all the classic sprinters. But let me say this: Fuck classic sprinters! Real heroes have 80+ flat! The softly descending finish was perfect for Tom to start an early sprint out of the bunch. Adler, who before that launched a good attack with Bartsen and Kelderman, took this once-in-a-lifetime chance and has gone from 500metres, no on in Tom's wheel (ain't that unbelievable?). Tom won in a real champion's manner before Wellingtom (Zimbabwe) and Kusmitsch (Russia). Thanks a lot to Adler for managing the dutch team and believing in our classic star! It is a pleasure

It's always good to have an ace up your sleeve... or a joker

Wizards Cycling will have a new talent to conquer the sprinters' world and beat BSE Marzahn for a 2nd time in 2011 (hopefully...). After Steven Fitzpatrick, former time trialist and part of the legendary Giro 2009 team including Herbert Königsbauer, this will be the 2nd US-american rider in team history. The Lizard proudly presents:

Peter with 2nd career victory

After hiring new sprinter Jeff Joker Peter deVlamingh wanted to ensure he's still team's sprinter No. 1 by winning Österreich-Rundfahrt's last stage. Finally the work was worth it by our enormous tries in the last week after unfortunately missing stage 1 and the chance for the green jersey. The tour though was not successful at all, the team managed to make a big minus again (well, 100k, not that much). Rumours go around Eickendreyer might lose his job aswell to go back to a total one day race team like Wizards Cycling used to be 2010 with plenty of successes. Riders for 2011 are planned already, now it's time to put effort in hiring new talents.

Eddy leaves the team

Yeah, blabla... just a mess with those climbers. Andrew and Eddy were two good talents bought for January, but they both were not the type of rider that the manager is used to. Now Eddy gets sold aswell, the teams' orientation will go more into sprints and classics now. I just guess this is what makes most fun for me to play, so better stick to that. And maybe during this year there could be a new climber, who knows. Or 80-70, or something like that... let's see!

second: unfortunately both climbers out of the team now. Should buy this Eickendreyer he said he wants to ride in a real mountain team but there are this stupid herner rules hm. Good luck in sprints and classics. your classic riders are all good in training (yeah dont wanna say i am unlucky but just look at this stupid Fatou) and successful too
