As Donks is throwing around numbers and I'm a little bored atm while also being a numbers guy, let me show some perspective.
I took Vuelta as a base for people interested in riding longer, harder Tours. Last year roughly 70% of teams that participated in Vuelta rode the Andes.
This year we obviously have some more teams riding, wavelings, some comebackers etc. So we had one edition more for Vuelta. If we again say 70% of those teams will be riding Andes, this could be spread around 3 or 4 editions seen in the attachment. The edition with 4 people looks kinda bad, especially for the afternoon. Yes, you could say some teams from 18h Vuelta will be riding 14/15h Andes, but I think most of the 18h guys would rather switch to the later evening than afternoon.
The 3 editions variant shows quite high numbers, I merged 9+14h for the morning or afternoon edition, and I also merged 18h+20h for the 19h edition. The merged numbers could obviously be lower in reality due to some teams not riding at all due to timing. Participation could be even lower considering the latest judgement of the profiles.
To me the conclusion is:
1.Are we okay with having 8-13 teams for 3 Andes edition while also risking not giving some teams the opportunity to ride Andes in the afternoon / morning.
2. Or do we prefer to give everyone the opportunity to ride, but risk having 2 editions with really low participation (7 and 5 expected Teams).
For reference 2024:
Participation Rate 24 Andes / Vuelta
Morning 64%
Afternoon 63%
Evening 111%
Late evening 75%
