Buhmann + Leso Memorial Race

Post by Luna » Tue Mar 23, 2010 3:03 am

In the old german forum i called for a memorial race for our benefactors Leso and Buhmann. Must be more than a year ago. We discussed it some days than it fell asleep. Now i simply made it on my own:

The GP Herne Memorial Les Dubray starts in Herne, hometown of Buhmann, then leaves the Ruhrgebiet as fast as possible in south-eastern direction until it reaches the suburbs of Iserlohn. There it enters a lap of ~50 km through some rambling foothills of the Rothaargebirge, that has to be tackled 2,5 times. Completely on german soil, therefor it carries a french name ;)

Image

Final kms: 0 . -2 . 3 . 2 . 2 . 3 . 4 . 4 . 3 . 4 . -1 . -2

Secondlast climb: 5 . 9 . 6 . 6 . 0 . 6 . 0 . -2 . 2 . 3

EDIT:
after some technical delays I now managed to save the file. New filename is: herne

Altered the name and inserted a cat 4 mountain prize

I set the climate to europe in autumn, as I suggest to let it run in autumn/winter during the off-season.

I presumed that the last name of leso is the same as Buhmann's. Hope I'm not wrong with this.

Ah... Memorial? When I hear Buh + Leso memorial to me it sounds like if they are dead and now need to be remembered with a race... but they are sill alive, no? At least let's hope so.... Can't you just change the name? The "Vive les Dubrays" or "Praise Buh+leso" or something like that?
Kraftsystemrevision! Include the distance!
Basics reform: Give blue a chance!
Don't punish bugusers. We all have to use bugs, since most of them are declared as "features"!
Got a carrot from FL. But they threaten to take it away now.

Hm, what you say seems to make sense in a way. But what led me to the concept of a "Memorial" was that, contrary to real persons that have a face and a appearance, Buhmann and Leso are more or less only virtual persons to most of us, while one could easy forget, that they use their time and attention regularly to provide us with our daily bread.. ehm.. race. So the intention was to promote the awareness about them as being real human beings, who sacrifice their time and energy to keep the game alive. Each of the users may simply make a break if they have not enough time or if they're not in the mood. While Buhmann has to fix bugs, introduce new functions, respond to complaints, fairness issues etc pp. and Leso has to fill the calendar adequatly, each month, right in time, correct little mistakes in the drawings of the races, manage the thing with the editor and so on. That's how the "Memorial" is meant; to keep all this in memory of the community, as it's something one could easily forget.

What do Buhmann and Leso think about it. Do they feel, they are treated as dead, when having a race called "Memorial"?

I don't mind. It just didn't happen without reason to give it that name. But if it should be called something else, then I'm with it.

In the meantime I thought about "Tribute to..", but that's so english. If you're okay with "Memorial", than that's fine.
Don't worry about forcing the masses to ride your race. You forced us for years holding on to your platform here ;)

My further thoughts are that, if we want to run the race once per year, maybe the drawer of the race could change - don't want to necessarily stick myself to it - but it shall always start in Herne, of course. Then sometimes it runs maybe more flat for sprinters or even more mountainous to make it a harder race.

The off-season gets nearer. Maybe Novembre? 3rd or 27th, 29th, 30th?
