Nonsense in California
In a veritable effort, Xaver Unsinn wins the first stage in California. He wears now the leader's jersey and heads the points classement. It has been his first career win ever. Hopefully he is able to defend it during the upcoming stages.
For the first time, Team FL riders the Tour of California. While Nathaniel Biederman heads the team for the middle mountain and mountain stages, Xaver Unsinn is the man for the sprints and Gaudenz Taverna for the time trial and perhaps even for a decent place in the general classement. Anyway, everything more than just a huge financial loss would be nice side effect.
Accordingly, the team management was more than happy seeing Xaver winning the first stage in a late attack. Together with Beppo Levi he left all other riders behind him when winning the sprint against his group mate from Radunion. As a consequence, he wears now the leader's jersey and is first in the points classement. Of course, there are still seven stages to go, but it could have gone worse... So, Team FL hopes that the rest of the tour offers more highlights for its riders like Biedermann or Taverna.

After the TT, Team FL riders were still in the front positions of the stage results, now wearing the points jersey, that also changed from Unsinn to Biedermann. In the last stage today, a good late effort led Team FL to a double victory. Stefan Küng won the stage while Nathaniel Biedermann got second and defended the points jersey. A happy end of a successful tour, also financially. After an April without a real success, May seems pays it back multiply. And of course: California love... (shake it baby).

It was his last chance to convince the team management and he made it: Jean Ollé Ollé won his first race at the Bavaria tour, stage three. In a cooperation with SK Blu-Bardhe, he managed to make Team FL smile after the sprint royal.
While the stage almost ended in a desaster for Gaudenz Taverna, guest team manager SK Blu-Bardhe kept cool and led the peloton to a sprint royal where Jean Ollé Ollé won his first race ever. Benvenuto Stefano
Team FL keeps up its long tradition to hire Italian classic riders, like Tony Longo or Severino Nicolosi. Stefano Benni from Bologna is the latest one in this line to join the Liechtenstein cycling team.

The living alliteration joins Team FL
As the second new rider for Team FL in June, the young Liechtenstein cyclist Walter Walch arrived in Vaduz at the 2nd of the current month. As there are not much Liechtenstein talents on the market (although Nipp winning the Giro), Walch will fill the position of the waterboy now and in the future.
Coming from Vaduz, Walter Walch was reported as a future prospect rider for Team FL for a long time by the scouts. So far, the rider was just to young to be thrown into the "shark tank" of cycling. But now that he did some improvements, got more physic and reached psychic maturity (!), the team management is glad to present him as the second new rider this month next to the upcoming Italian star rider Stefan Benni. Walter Walch will be of course in a completely other position than his Italian team mate. Walter, who likes architecture, arts in general, jazz and hicking besides cycling, was always a big fan of hard working and fighting Wesley Lichtenkiesel. The Vaduzer citizen who is already father of three (!) children has now the possibility to follow in his Belgian role model's footseps. The only thing Walter does not like is jokes about his Name. I guess that could be a problem at Team FL... So, here are the facts about the easy going young father, Walter "Wawa" Walch:

King Küng rules FL (again)
Almost with the same line-up like in October last year, Stefan "King" Küng won the Liechtenstein National Championships for the second time. The small state in the heart of Europe is now considering seriously to change its form of government from principality to kingdom.

Hmm, the picture looks remarkably the same like last time...
Last time, Hugo Marxer was still riding for Team FL at the National Championships in October 2011 in Liechtenstein. This time, he followed the race from Shanghai over 1FLTV on the tele. The connection was not very good, but at least he saw the third Team FL victory at the Liechtenstein NCs, King Küng's second one. And he saw his replacement, Walter Walch, who looked rather weak this time. After all, Hugo had to admit that it was not a very interesting race. Pretty short after the start it was clear, that either Nate Biedermann or Stefan Küng will win the race, also Cedric Steuble was in the front group too. But in the Team FL sandwich (!) he accepted his fate and cheered for the winner after the finish line. And he was not the only one. Lots of people built a huge crowd in the Städtle of Vaduz. They were chanting Küng's Name and hailed the King. The Government and the Prince were so impressed, that they're now seriously consider to give it a try: KIngdom of Liechtenstein, ruler: Stefan "King" Küng I. (or actually the second). Unfortunately a the next day when everybody sobered up again, Stefan was still King, but only King of the road. At least in Liechtenstein. So a short road. Whatever... Hail the King!

For the first time, a Team FL rider was wearing yellow at the Tour de France when Gaudenz Taverna won the Prologue in Belgium. Unfortunately it only lasted one stage, while Xaver Unsinn missed the second stage win for the team from Liechtenstein.

Because the Team FL management thinks, that there can't be that much bad luck again as it was the case with Jean Ollé Ollé, the Liechtenstein cycling team hired its second rider from Cameroun this year: Henri Bienvenu. Henri, born in Garoua in the north of Cameroun, has his strenght in the flat, although his stamina is not the very best. Anyway, he will support the team mainly in one day races or short tours. His stats:

Taverna master of time
Gaudenz Taverna celebrates his second stage win at the Tour de France. After his victory at the Prologue and one day in yellow, he also won the ITT at stage 9. Now he just hopes to get over the mountains healty to do a hattrick at the ITT before the last stage to Paris.
Gaudenz "Cronos" Taverna could not sleep well last night. He dreamt a lot, tossing and turning in his bed. Finally he slept a few hours before he woke up at 7 a.m. with a scream: "Besancon!", the final town to reach in today's ITT. Of course his room mate Harry Hole, who was drinking till late at night, groaned, pulled the pillow over his head and turned around, trying to get rid of the pain Gaudenz' screem caused in his head. Well, it didn't help. Gaudenz was awake and could not await the start of stage 10 of the Tour de France, where he was considerd the main stage favorite. He felt the his legs prickling and had to walk around to clear his head off his dreams that night. In the meantime, Harry gave up and cursed something in Norweigan, got up, pulled over his jeresey and tried to wash out the bad taste out of this mouth (It's not sure waht he used to do that).
Next thing Gaudenz still remembers today was at the start, the official next to him counting down: " 3, 2, 1, go!" while Gaudenz was thinking in German: "3, 2, 1, meins!". Now he was not nervous anymore, not dreaming, not thinking. Well, just one thought: Riding fast. He was focused and ready. During the race, he didn't realised the fans next to the road, he just rode and had his eyes fixed on the road. Although it was raining heavily, he was sure not to tumble and fall. And then it was over after 42 km. Marathon. Greek mythology. Cronos. There it was again. The thought. He was the master of time. And nobody could beat him today. He was happy. Harry was already drunk again.

Nothing but Taverna
The Tour de France is over. Team FL goes home with three stage wins, all performed by Gaudenz Taverna in prologue and the two ITTs. Besides that, the Tour was more "Kampf und Krampf" for the Liechtenstein cycling team. Unsinn missed his chances and was on place 27 in the GC the best FL-rider.
Neither Unsinn nor Benni, Küng or Ollé Ollé could celebrate a stage win at the Tour de France this year. Only Taverna held up the Team FL spirit with his three (expected) stage wins. Thus, the teams gets home with mixed feelings. Three stage wins are okay, but it could have been more. GC placement 27 is okay compared with the other teams, but was it a mistake not to nominate Nathaniel Biedermann? Besides that, the Tour was a financial loss for Team FL. Not that the team management expected anything else, but it still prevents a decent team planning. Anyway, the Tour was fun, mostly. Now we look forward to the upcoming challenges. Maybe Alsace? Most probably. Of course with Taverna.

August starts well
While July was a huge financial loss, August starts not only well financially. After Nathaniel Biedermann was on podium and Stefano Benni caught the youth jersey at Correze, Gaudenz Taverna wins the Elk Grove Prologue and is not favorite for the GC.
July 2012 is easy to summarise for Team FL: Tour, Taverna, Trouble (financially). The triple TTT led to two stage wins (one of Taverna's wins at the Tour was in June), more or less desastrous stage race participations and a huge financial loss. But only three days in August, we already evened out the financial loss of July. This month startet with Correze, a two day stage race where Nathaniel Biedermann reached the third GC place. Unsinn could have won it but did a horrible sprint at the second stage. Still with the Stefano Benni's victory in the youth classement, it was the first successful stage race after the Tour. And today with Elk Grove, hopefully the second successful one started. The Prologue was very promising as Taverna (who else at the moment) won it and is now wearing the yellow leader's jersey while borrow the green one to the rider on the second place. Not it's up to the team and Ollé Ollé if this stage race will continue the current trend or if Correze was just an outlier.

Benni hui, Taverna pfui
While Stefano Benni wins his first race ever at the Denmark tour, Gaudenz Taverna is losing even more ground in the GC after the desastrous first stage.
In the style of a great echappeur, Stefano Benni wins the second stage of the Denmark tour. Three kilometeres before the finish line he attacked successfully at the last steep part of the race while nobody else could follow. He even could extend his lead until the finish line and also took over the yellow leader's jersey as well as the first place of the youth classement, at least for tomorrow's stage. The young Italian especially thanked Niels Hörnö who did the work to prepare this victory. Behind Benni, also Stefan Küng showed his skills and reached the finish line among the top10.
During the same stage, Gaudenz Taverna lost some more seonds on Lew and Brathwaite as he could not follow their attack before the last intermediary sprint. Beeing now 11 resp. 7 seconds behind these two riders, he has almost no chance anymore to win the tour without getting some bonus seconds himself. Anyway, he does not give up of course and at least hopes for a podium place. Of course, the Team FL management would also like another stage win or more.

Benni hui again, good-bye Nate
Today, Team FL has to present a joyful and a sad message. While Stefano Benni wins the second stage in a row in Denmark and is still wearing yellow, Nathaniel "Nate" Biederman retires from cycling and leaves Team FL.
After Stefano Benni's take-over of the general classement yesterday, Team FL wanted to save that jersey at least until the decision day tomorrow with 15 km long ITT. The Plan worked well, when Hörnö and Küng attacked around 35 km before the finish line and made the GC- and sprint-teams do high tempo and therefore weaken their flat riders. In the end, Benni himself attacked at the second last km at 3%, having Senna da Silva from AlmavivaItala and Santander from Liva Porticcio in his wheel. Nevertheless, due to his great form, Benni crossed the finish line first and could even extend his lead in the general and youth classement. Besides that, Team FL is still leading in the team classement, which is also not a bad thing. Tomorrow then, we mainly depend on Tavernas good TT skills and perhaps a surprising finish by Ollé Ollé.
Nate's fire does not light anymore
On the same day Benni makes Team FL proud, Nathaniel "Nate" Biederman, the Brandstifter, who already made the team proud a lot of times during his career, quits cycling. The quiet guy from Hinterschellenberg, often seen with his compagnion Toni Hassler, the angry one from Hinterschellenberg, leaves the stage and gives space for young riders to join the team. Nate was probably one of the best classic riders Team FL had. Unfortunately for him, he was often to find in a helper role for lot's of riders, either his friend Toni, Stefan Küng, or even Cédric Schmarotz. Nevertheless, he did well, especially in California where he could win a stage and the points classement. Besides that, he was the team mate everybody was looking for. Thus, the team wishes him all the best for his future, joining Toni to start an NGO for setting up Anarchy in Liechtenstein as form of government with Hinterschellenberg as capital.

Ollé Ollé and Taverna follow Benni
While Benni was the Team FL attraction for two stages in a row, today Jean Ollé Ollé and Gaudenz Taverna dominated the two half stages. First Ollé Ollé won the MS in the first, and Taverna the ITT in the second one. Unfortunately, the GC chance was already gone.
4 stage wins in three days. The Team FL management is not sure if this ever happend before for the Liechtenstein cycling team. Anyway, it happened now and we're very happy about it. Twice Stefano Benni and today Jean Ollé Ollé (first half stage) in a sprint royal and Gaudenz Taverna in the ITT (second half stage). The Denmark tour is a success. Only one thing is a bit disappointing: The GC. As Taverna won the ITT today, he would have also had good chances to win the GC. But after stage one and losing also bonus seconds at stage two, this chance had already passed by. Finally, it will be the third place and thus at least podium. And tomorrow will be another chance for Ollé Ollé two make it a 5 out of 6.
