The 10 Uhr Giro

Post by Samurais » Sat Apr 30, 2011 12:53 pm

Lineup:

I will probably start here. Nothing definitive, but 50% chance of start here. 25% and 25% at the 2 times in the evening.
I will come with Lelievre as a strong leader, but for the stages. Cannot really hope for a GK podium I guess. We'll see.
"Stage hunters" riders around lelievre. more or less 460-480k/day.

Only 2 days left... It will be the first Giro for the young team. Last Year we participated at the Vuelta - first and only GT. The team had some good results in the escapes but there was always at least one who was stronger than us. I remember the strong Shiva Kadeer!
But now the team is more experienced and stronger. So we hope to get our stage win in a GT. We will start with two guys for the hard mountains: Teko Hunter and Aaron Hope. Also we have some strong classic specialists to choose from. We have Harper, who won the last stage of Romandie, that should be enough to be in the Giro team. Alex the old greece wants to participate too and end his career after, but we also have the younger Kratos and Donald... Hard decision, maybe we will just take them all.
Then the helpers. We will need some good riders for the flat - even if the Giro is more up & down.
...
I think tomorrow we can anounce our Giro team.

Wow, you guys have a Giro too?
Kraftsystemrevision! Include the distance!
Basics reform: Give blue a chance!
Don't punish bugusers. We all have to use bugs, since most of them are declared as "features"!
Got a carrot from FL. But they threaten to take it away now.

The new jerseys for the team arrived today, but with some problems (fuck the editor  ) and so we couldn't use them in todays race. But tomorrow we will show our new jerseys in front!

congrats to Crecchio for winning the TTT - an italian team wins the first stage of the Giro is a good thing i guess.

so the Ariostea´s ride the Giro for the first time in the team´s history.

line up:

1) Nanni (34) 82-70-75-50-58 - 34 years and still unsuccessful - trying to save his career at the Giro
2) Aldelio (28) 73-82-77-55-46 - the team´s best helper
3) Anev (24) 68-81-66-48-54 - winner of the Tour of Flandern
4) Canazza (26) 53-68-63-47-43 - aiming to survive the Giro and to see Milano
5) Cutunio (35) 74-70-66-47-76 - star of the team - still good enough to win stages
6) Ivanov (22) 59-77-71-54-64 - at the Giro for learning how to work hard
7) Plaza (32) 46-82-66-47-47 - working hard and trying to see Milano
8) Raggi (30) 69-85-56-54-58 - for bringing Cutunio to the line
9) Valotti (31) 46-85-74-46-48 - working hard and trying to see Milano

aimes: a stage win - overall rankings: no goals actually
salary: 480.000

05/07) TTT: A good start

Today was the TTT, like expected we could not mess with the best teams. We arrived at the sixth place 45 seconds behind the winner team crecchio. Congratulations for that, a nice start for the italians.
Our team was scared of the first pave km, so we started it slowly without any risk. In the following kms Tim Baker took the lead of the Team. He did the most work and a great job! Aslan Kursherevsky was able to go with the pace but in the last 2 kms it was to fast for him, so he decided to let the team go on without him and to save his energy for the coming three hard weeks.
We are in a good situation now. Our mountain riders are some seconds in front of other strong opponents. So with a bit of luck we could take the leader jersey in one of the coming stages before the really hard mountains begin.

(I will try to post like this after every stage. Feel free to tell me grammar mistakes via PM.)

8.05.2011,10 Uhr GIRO : Giro 11 tappa 2 Alba-Parma: Flachetappe
1. 00:00:00 Andreas Zahradka (Samurais)
2. 00:00:00 Gino Cutunio (Ariostea)
3. 00:00:00 CharlesM Harper (Vuvuzela)
4. 00:00:00 Djibo Dombo (BMG-Allstars)
5. 00:00:00 Frida Kahlo (Alkworld)

quite a calm stage actually - only 3 and a half riders in the escape - and the Samurais willing to work with the Aris for a Sprint of the 70+. The sprint quite ok actually - just Gino loosing it against Zahradka. Idiot! Tomorrow´s stage looks interesting - actually no idea what will be the outcome of that.

05/08) Alba-Parma: rolling in
Today was a long stage (244km), but the peloton was chilling the most kms and there was only a small group.
In the finish Charles Harper chose the right wheel, but the winner Zahradka from the team Samurais was in his wheel. So Harper reached the third place. Plus 4 riders of us did it into the top 30.
So it was a easy day - we didn't have to work. Some of our team felt good today and some will need more kms to get into their best shape. We will see what the next days will bring for our team.

So, after one day off and having JPS sitting me, then one day not really there which didn't matter in this case, tomorrow the Giro will really start for me. It seems we have an interesting field with no obvious favorite (yet).
On the first glance, I would say Bamba is a clear favorite, but then there's the Strade Bianchi where nobody knows yet, how much he might lose there. Marechal with strong pave skill, Speed and Hope with their strong teams are also candidates. What I don't believe is that the "Hubers" will play an important role here. There are just too many steep climbs and too many strong teams with two climbers who'll make their life hard. But as always: We'll see!

do you think so? i bet on the Hubers.

Ari´s look into the cristall ball says:

***** Kamehameha
**** Anderson, Nasawa
*** Marechal, Hope, Marquez

the Huber´s helper could have 2 or 3 points more mountainskill - but 31km TT in Milano...will have an impact. but it is a long hard tour - a lot can happen, that´s true for sure.

Our field has a lot of good riders who are able to win the giro with a bit of luck... That's cool and it will all depend on how the stages will be ridden by us all.
But on the paper I would say Anderson or Kamehameha (I like that name).
3 weeks... Everything can happen... One moment of inattentiveness (difficult word)... One moment of luck... I'm a bit excited

9.05.2011,10 Uhr GIRO : Giro 11 tappa 3 ReggioEmilia-Rapallo: Flachetappe
1. 00:00:00 Gino Cutunio (Ariostea)
2. 00:00:00 Shawn ODriscoll (ChartreuseCycle)
3. 00:00:00 Frida Kahlo (Alkworld)
4. 00:00:00 Teko Hunter (Vuvuzela)
5. 00:00:00 Aaron Hope (Vuvuzela)

a good win for Gino. this wasn´t as easy as it might have looked. first to make a decision to go for Gino with all i have (including Nanni) or to leave Nanni in front and just to go with Aldelio for Gino. fortunately Alk could convince me to go for Gino with the full squad. then the "siebing-fighting problem"...decided to let Gino fight at the Bocco 40 km before the finish. nothing is worse than coming out with the whole team not fighting behind a bunch of fighting 72-80 riders, who will probably ride together when the Favorit is gone... so Gino fighting "yes". and of course a Sieb by Crecchio...Gino fought and stayed with the mountain riders... for luck the descent was long and with the help of Nanni he could recover to 986. on the last hill: Sieb again, Gino fought again and again stayed in the leading group (somehow looked the whole day more like 80 mountain than like 74 mountain today...), while Aldelio lost contact and had to chase with Nanni, fortunately strong enough to keep away Cortazar/Puig and the rest of the classics. Nanni not siebing Aldelio at 7% was good too - feared that a little bit. but Aldo really strong today.

10.05.2011,10 Uhr GIRO : Giro 11 tappa 4 Genova-Livorno: Mittelschwere Etappe
1. 00:00:00 Gino Cutunio (Ariostea)
2. 00:00:00 Shawn ODriscoll (ChartreuseCycle)
3. 00:00:00 Teko Hunter (Vuvuzela)
4. 00:00:00 Aaron Hope (Vuvuzela)
5. 00:00:00 Jinichi Nasawa (Samurais)

another win by Gino. 2 stages won - actually all goales for the Giro achieved - now we can take it easy.
as expected no real group going today, everybody already focused on the Pave-section tomorrow. let´s see this - looks interesting.
So today the question for the Aris was more or less to make it a sprint with Raggi (and Zahradka) or without Raggi. no help for Raggi uphill - the risk of not making it back against the Alki´s and Elbcoasts too big - so left Aldelio and Nanni in front with Cutunio to have options, after seeing what the Sieb will bring. after the Sieb the Raggi group far behind - but fortunately Puig, Cortazar,Heirweygh, Faday all behind Cutunio and the strong Aldelio. So only Hölder and Camargo in front - no problem for Gino to follow them attacking. that´s why no other choise than speeding it up in front and make it as hard as possible for the next group to come back. they failed by 1 second in the end - in front no attack going on the last km - a little lucky today probably.

05/09-10: getting ready
The last 2 stages where dominated by the team Ariostea with his strong sprinter Cutunio helped by Aldelio.
For our team it was relaxing in the peloton and in the end our leader and co-leader did it into the top 5 both times. Hunter got one third place winning some seconds and so he is now in front of Hope. Will he get from co-leader to leader? Well, let's wait for tomorrow where we will have the pave in the end. There the positions could change again and maybe there will be the first gaps between the classement riders.

It was a bit unfortunate that my connection was extremely slow 2km before the end. I just managed to do a part of my settings, also wanted to tell Elb to get out of tempo to allow a Puig attack. BMG seemed to have the same problem in the front, otherwise Camargo could have gotten away, if he'd attacked one km earlier. And if Samu and Vuvu In the back would have just done tempo with many riders right away (and me as a helper), the first group would have been caught too. But reaction was too slow in that case and I had to help Elb in group 2. But anyway, let's start the Giro tomorrow. Maybe some teams are out of business then and more teams wil attack later ;-)

Puig attack...no problem. Gino got his wheel. everybody else coming back...is ok too, would have taken a sprint against Zahradka too, bringing back Raggi for controlling and Aldelio for blocking the end. more problematic was a possible attack in front by Camargo - and don´t know whom to follow with Cutunio. Puig from behind or Camargo in front...

11.05.2011,10 Uhr GIRO : Giro 11 tappa 5 Piombino-Orvieto: Mittelschwere Etappe
1. 00:00:00 Gino Cutunio (Ariostea)
2. 00:00:00 Manuel Puig (Alkworld)
3. 00:00:00 Filippo Raggi (Ariostea)
4. 00:00:01 Marius Wagner (Team Warriors)
5. 00:00:01 Nanami Nasawa (Team Warriors)

as expected the stage had some first impact on the overall rankings, but not that much everybody probably had feared before. Marquez taking 30 seconds on most of the opponents is not what you can call a kind of major Gk-decission. but some of the climbers really lost some time today (portiolo, Fohlenracer) - but the rest: everything more or less the same than it was before the stage. And don´t complain about the Ari´s supporting the Alki´s in the end - be happy the Aris were there - otherwise Puig can go in and Alk takes the stage with Marquez! what first makes the group faster and 2nd give bonus seconds to Marquez. nevertheless thanks to Alk - he really knows how to race this stuff, making only 4 Aris and 4 Alkis stay in front (with the offline Warriors). i think the chance for Gino not being able to follow Puig on the last km was not too bad - but Gino now got this Giro-feeling...
