Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Slow start into the afternoon PGCF 2025. Team-Mojabahs with the attack for the Polka Dot Jersey and a cosy chase in the back, lead by Alpacas for GC and the sprint teams. Not much going on until the last steeper section, when CircleCycle and Schappy decided to keep a group of distanced riders away from the peloton, mainly with Damien Toulet from Big Donkey and Krzysztof Kaczmarczyk in it. Unfortunately, they couldn't make it back as the sprint teams took over again in front around 20 km before the finish line. In the end, the best sprinter with the best sprint train won. No mahagoni sticks involved. So Alex is the first rider in the maillot jaune, which will change today most likely already, as we're facing a hilly finish. To get to a point, here are the statistics.

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Stage two, second flat stage, technically, but with a hilly finish. And the longest stage of the PGCF this year. Hence, an early escape tried their luck with two riders from Circle Cycle and Gipfelstuermer and one from Liberty Sarténe. In the peloton, Alpacas started to control, followed by Team FL. The chase was a bit reluctant until SouthWest Packers joined. Still, looking at the many possible outcomes on a +4 finish, too many teams just watch the stage unfold. In the end, two riders of the group arrived around 30 secs before the group of the main favourites, led by Fürchtegott Fürst this time. So it's Kyriakos Manesiotis from CircleCycle in yellow, also leading the mountain classement. Second behind him, Marcel Hessling wears the Polka Dot jersey for the moment, while Dominik Luptar from Liberty Sarténe finished third, 7 seconds behind them. Tomorrow will be another flat stage, third in a row, with only. a little 5% climb in the way. Will it be the second bunch sprint, or a second escaper winning the stage? Will Kyriakos Manesiotis defend yellow until the first hilly stage the day after? We will find out tomorrow.
Stage 2:
01. 00:00:00 Kyriakos Manesiotis (CircleCycle)

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
After our team was plagued by a virus in the opening weekend which left us to make the last minute decision of replacing Thibault and Giacomo by Pierre and Jan, the team (and their manager) is now back up to full health and ready to terrorize France for the next 3 weeks, starting with a new chance for Kozomara today, who lost out for Alex' wheel in stage 1 because he had to sneeze in the last corner...
Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Stage three, bunch sprint, Alex time. Not much to tell. An early group tried its luck with two Donkeys, and one rider each from Kreatif and Liberty Sarténe. But the peloton chased slow but steadily and soon it looked like the group wanted to give up. But Kreatif wouln't have it and attacked with two additional riders, first still checking the peloton, but then going full throttle with the rest of the group, forcing the sprint teams to pace up. In the end, it was a BSE worthy last km (or second last km, details) catch with the best legs for Alex again. So, second stage win for the US boy at Team FL. Tomorrow ANOTHER flat but not flat stage. Let's see who tries an escape again and who works for his stage chances. Poor Rik seems to need some very good massage tonight...

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Stage 4, fourth "flat" stage in a row. If you wanted to see action, you were at the right place at the right time. Attacks upon attacks, looking for the final early escape group. But it took over 70 km of attacking and chasing before a group was let go eventually. Two riders from Liberty Sarténe tried their luck and grabbed the intermediates on the way. In the peloton, Alpacas, CreditPommes and Team FL with some help by SouthWest Packers controlled and chased either for GC or for their stage chances. In the end, it was Jonathan Watson from Kreativ with the decisive attack at km 170, followed by the stage winner Leo Eef and two other riders. Meanwhile in the back, Kyriakos Manesiotis from CircleCycle held on to yellow for his dear life and managed to wear the maillot jaune also for stage 5, the ITT. It's not very likely he will be able to defend it there too, but who knows. The GC now looks a bit tossed around because the GC favorites arrived a bit later than expected. But the ITT and the upcoming stage will bring some order into that again, probably. For green, Alex still looks good, grabing some points at the IS. The mountain classement is now led by Frarnk (!) Damgaard (Liberty Sarténe) while Artem Melnick wears white.

Somehow the first group of climbers is closer to Luna than I thought, but then I didn't really think much about it... but only 2'54" to gain back for Lachance is making me all excited. 4'11" for Dixon much less.
Luna still clear GC favorite. Minenko looks very good for a podium place now. I suspect he's under reg, so loses a tiny bit tomorrow, but gained lots today, probably a good deal.
Fürst at number 2, 40 reg, under reg too? All very confusing for the Donkey to be honest. Podium here difficult, 83 mountain... but ok, we can expect a rather controlled race, as long as Luna and helpers don't attack, just hang on and lose some time in the last 2-3 km. But still, Minenko 31" back, should get that back.
Panahi with 54 TT but 46 reg is telling me that the 2 ahead were under reg, or have superb form.
Oper+Lachance, probably the 2 number 2s in their respective teams, both now demand to be number 1 I guess? Lachance for sure. Might have to have him ride for the GPM again to shut him up. Anyway, the Oper-Lachance-Mtchel-Redrocks group looks good for the third place on the podium, which could be second as well, or very unlikely first.
Villaverde-Caradhas not far behind, again, for them too, Podium still possible.
Stoel and Melnick look more difficult, one is more a stage hunter on some stages, the other the same and helper for Minenko
Dixon far back, will have to gain time on all for the podium, but if the Donkey is not bluffing and he's indeed the leader, not completely impossible.
Zuk, no reg, no TT, started too fast, collapsed in the end, stay in reg. GC looks hard with that reg, hang on and wait will not result in many GC places gained vs other 80+ guys. Top 10 looks like a challenge here.

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Stage 5, ITT, time for Adrian Baranowski from Radomiak to shine. And he did by winning the stage easily. As this mysterious Robyklebt already had a look a the current GC situation after the ITT, there is not much to say about that anymore. Other classements didn't change. Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Stage 6. The Fürst dilemma continues. Second time first behind the escapers. It seems, he recovered best after yesterday's time trial. For a long time, Alpacas kept the group in striking distance. But after non of the stage favourites, including Team FL, joined the chase, the GC leaders just kept controlling the gap, not going for his stage chances himself. And so it was Ivan Batistella from Gipfelstuermer who won today's stage against his three conestants from the escape group. Three other riders finished behind them and then came the Fürst, 1 sec before all other stage and GC favourites. So, in the classements, nothing changed much, but Batistella now leading in the mountain classement.

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Perfect ride from BW IMO. Aguilar of course here has chances. But was helper, all for Luna. And while Luna in the end won the sprint of the group, from which of course Fürst had to escape, the guy has no sense of community it seems, but that's far from sure. The Donkey with his 43 sprint wasn't going to attack today. Plus at +7, where the flat counts as we saw from Fürst, even with an attack most likely not the one that gets furthest away. Aguilar further for sure, Zuk most likely too. Zuk seemed unfit, Aguilar helper (with his sprint though if followed far from a safe bet too) Donkey perfectly happy to let a group through. Others with better chances (sprint and flat), plus for the moment I'm perfectly happy to make Alpacas work. If I want a small chance to somehow manage to get back somewhere close in GC, he needs to be weakened... so let him ride.
Still surprising that Fürst got away... But if somebody else attacks, Luna-fit Zuk-Lachance-Dixon-fit Minenko-fit Aguilar. for sure at least same time, after all Fürst only won 1".
Let's see what happens tomorrow, after today Fürst might be interested. Donkey isn't, 9 5 finish? Yeah, looks fantastic for my heroes
! Another group is fully ok, but not with any of those flat-strong climbers in it...FL, Schappy. Which I declare to be favorites for tomorrow. SWP, Falcor and Credit Pommes need to be analyzed further. Tomorrow easy until the finale, so even the mountain-challenged FL team could control, if he's interested. He should be, after all somebody promised us 7 FL wins! If not, no problem for me, let Alpacas ride is always nice.

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
I have even less confidence today than I had yesterday. 9-5 as finish clearly favors 85/86 climbers even more than a single 7, in my opinion. And today, climbers don't have the excuse anymore that they're not fit. They also should have better form than yesterday. But who knows how the race develops. I certainly won't risk the bunch sprint on Saturday for an obscure chance today.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.
Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
I thought with the 5 at the end ideal for Fürst...hang on at 9, he's not siebable there, somebody will do tempo, go at 5. But ok Aguilar stronger? No sprint... Zuk stronger? Don't know. Would suspect not. As for form, who said Fürst's isn't still getting better?
I thought today better than yesterday for Fürst, despite the flat, didn't think he'd be the best on 7%. Ok, don't see him solo either tomorrow.
But we'll see, I'll be perfectly happy if only Alpacas rides as well. My finances less, I'm now the team with the least income so far.

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
For the first time in my life I agree with everything the Donkey said here... Imo Fürst big favo between the GC contenders, I know where Enno and Mike will be hanging!
Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Big favo, he's not my favo!!!!
Fürst win today finally, grr. 1" to Lachance, didn't really think he would survive the 5% that well, saw him caught by the peloton. But gained more on the 9%, lost less on the 5% than expected. Zuk third, thought following Fürst the logic thing to do, but seeing that it was 2"... maybe he can't follow either.
Disappointment Aguilar, normally would expect a much stronger Aguilar on 5%, but either not helped much (I'd help him over Caradhras on stages like this) or very late form or something, normally he should be the strongest here. With half-decent form at least.. But no, 3" lost on attacking Fürst, that's a lot. Ok, no yes alone possible too, bunch of other guys were in tempo, with yes alone that's somehow unlikely to happen. Unless it's the energy... form, even at 83-66 he should keep Panahi out of tempo...
Now 2 more days that look good for FL
Donkey in the meantime has overtaken 3 teams in the income category.

Fürst win today finally, grr. 1" to Lachance, didn't really think he would survive the 5% that well, saw him caught by the peloton. But gained more on the 9%, lost less on the 5% than expected. Kraftsystemrevision! Include the distance!
Basics reform: Give blue a chance!
Don't punish bugusers. We all have to use bugs, since most of them are declared as "features"!
Got a carrot from FL. But they threaten to take it away now.

Re: Afternoon Post Giro Criterium in France 2025
Stage 7, and third times a charm. After the Fürst missed two possible stage wins at stage 2 and 4, he finally got it on stage 7. With a powerful attack on the last km, he let everybody behind him and overtook Émile Lachance from Big Donkey who tried his luck on the km before. And Alex with some points on the IS. A very successful day for Team FL. But not without work. An early group animated the race and a late attack by SouthWest Packers made the finish interesting too. But all attack were futile in the end as too many teams hoped for their chances on the final climb.
At the same time, Alessandra Luna defended his yellow jersey easily, still almost 2 min in front of everybody else. And it seemed that his shape wasn't the best so far. There's also a change in the mountain classement again. Kyriakos Manesiotis from Circle Cycle has taken over the Polka Dot jersey from Ivan Batistella (Gipfelstuermer). Kyriakos so far one of the most aggressive riders so far, already winning a stage and wearing yellow for a bit. The rest of the classements stayed mostly the same. The next two stages are flat and look like best bunch sprint material, right before the finish of week 1 with a mountain stage on Monday.

I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.
