National Teams / World Championships

Hi all,
as I said one big reason for the recent database redesign was to pave the way for some other features, now is the time to implement national teams, world championships and olympics again. I remember partially how it was working in the past, but changes to that old logic are also possible:
- We had races for U23 and older riders, should be no problem to do that again, but due to the number of riders available, it might make sense to have only one race
- Team sizes were always 4 (?) for U23, but depending on country success for the older ones (3-5-7-9?). In my opinion that made the U23 races way more interesting, as it was rather equal chances for everyone (if enough decent riders were available)
- Selection of teams was based on ranking of the previous season, top teams could choose earlier. In my opinion, this was generally fine, maybe could technically be improved by letting the next one choose right away, when the previous one made a selection
- We had four (?) world championships per year, maybe that's too much? My goal would be to make a first attempt in March. Theoretically, we could even have it in parallel to the regular races, this could be implemented.
- If anyone has other ideas for those races, feel free to share!

Very nice. Think 2 times in a year are enough. March and on the right real wm day.
Perhaps a wm and a U23 WM and the teams they find no managers are out. If there are "only" 30 teams would be more than enough in y eyes.

just one little thing!
NO money for WC, the jersey and palmares entry should be enough!

4 times a year allowed all riders to have a chance in the U23 race I guess ?
Less times could be good too. could be 3 ok ? and move the limit to U24.
Imo it brings another (important) topic : the number of nations currently available in the game. It could be hard to have plenty of riders for many nations (especially in U23) and then have many competitive teams.
- Selection of teams was based on ranking of the previous season, top teams could choose earlier. In my opinion, this was generally fine, maybe could technically be improved by letting the next one choose right away, when the previous one made a selection
Sounds good : ranking of previous month : is means at month change ? so, ranking of 1st of March for a WC later in March ?
Sounds good too : having it as an additionnal race, like an extra one. as not all managers can/will participate. Can also allow to choose the best day/time; or make it different every WC.
and it would be then good that :
NO money for WC, the jersey and palmares entry should be enough!

and only one edition per day! not several times per day. So maybe 4 times a year a good idea... 1 morning, 1 afternoon, 1 early evening, 1 late evening.
Could be decided by draw in January which month gets which time. just ideas...

I like the fact we go back to World Championships again. 2 times per year should be enough.
U24 instead of U23 would be m recommendation, and we should definitely ride it!
I think we should play it with all nations.
Can't wait!

Just checked in the database, we had
- one per year from 2016 on
- two per year from 2012 to 2015
- four until 2011 (data I checked only starts at 2010)
So we had pretty much everything

I suggest we anyway start with a fantasy edition in March, then decide on editions per year.

March? When do you expect to find the open slots for that in March? From Het Nieuwsblad to Gent Wevelgem, March promises to be very full.

I'd also say twice per year sounds reasonable. But during the season, there is not much space to have another WC other than on the real date in September. So I think only one WC per year sounds fine too.
I would go for 4 riders per nation, as, imho, it seems to be the most fun for everybody participating. And this:
NO money for WC, the jersey and palmares entry should be enough!
As well as no points.

Yes. After reading Everything here.. I would also vote for only once a year with real Dates.
Maybe timing could be different every year as not everyone has time at 20:00 for example.

I think for riders we should bring back the Nation rabking an go with the official numbers?
Road Races
Men Elite
The qualification system is to be used and applied in the order of the following provisions (1 to 6). 1. 2. 3. 4. Qualification through the UCI World Ranking by nations on 20 August 2024 (200 riders to start) A. Nations ranked 1 to 10 may enter 8 riders to start (80 riders to start) B. Nations ranked 11 to 20 may enter 6 riders to start (60 riders to start) C. Nations ranked 21 to 30 may enter 4 riders to start (40 riders to start) D. Nations ranked 31 to 50 may enter 1 rider to start (20 riders to start)
Maybe we add +1 for each like we do for normal races too.

Why more than one World Championship per year? Can we have more than one Paris Roubaix, too?
I liked the way we did it since 2016. On the original date on the original course. So:
28 September 2025, Kigali, Rwanda, put it in your calendar
Then once every 4 years, you have Olympics in addition to that (using the same or similar nations system).
For testing the system, I am of course ok with some earlier Fantasy World Championship (e.g. in March, at lower category).

Why more than one World Championship per year?
Only if we want to allow all rsf riders to have their chances in game to compete/win the WC ! That would also allow the same rsf rider to have different WC entries in his palmarès in case he performs well in different editions, like IRL.
If we don't care about that, and are ok that only riders at their "tops" in September can have a chance to win that race; then it's ok.
Because ofc, calendar wise, it makes it much easier to have it only once a year

I think we can do it even in parallel to the regular races, i.e. even on the same day of another race (and riders could take part in both). And as said, we don't need to decide now already, how many of them we want per year.
