Changing the "Sitting" tool

Post by Chemnitz Pro Cycling Team » Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:03 am

Hello all,

with all the discussions about sitting (see the Fairplay Thread), in my opinion it needs a change of the sitting tool (if Alk is able to programme it, of course).

I have two ideas:
The preferred way is that you are just able to choose sitters for tours. You can add them after the checkin time finished (so half an hour before the start of the tour) and they get automatically kicked out of the sitting programme when the tour is finished. You can always add just one sitter per time.

If this is too complicated, my second idea might be better: You can just have one sitter per day and you have to add him daily. With the day change, the "old" sitter get kicked out. I think that everyone has the 2 minutes of choosing a sitter on a morning in the bathroom.

Discussions are open.

Alk can say a lot more about the work that would be needed to build a waterproof sitter tool that probibit every illegal usage. It is also a matter of priorities (we have the fairplay rules and the FPC to deal with illegal usage of the sitter tool)

IMO it makes a lot of programming work and doesn't prevent every possible illegal use of the sitter tool. Additionally, the new version now also shows any sitter access during the races (see r FSCL case yesterday) that makes it easier to find and fine illegal sitter tool usage. Maybe we can reintroduce the main chat online list as well.

But what you describe is the common sense approach on how to use the sitter tool.

I'm registered as a sitter for 3 people... I follow the rules myself and assume that they do too.
If you're not sure, you can delete the sitters yourself and prevent it.

And people who want to cheat always find a way.

so i am fine with that now ... everyone can see what happen it in the window!

The way sitters are now shown in the online stats should solve most if the problems and we do not need to overcomplicate it.

Not exactly sure if I like either one of those options but if there is a need for a change I think we should go with an easy one.
Option 2 sounds to me more like the easiest way to implement of both of your ideas as it should be (can but not has to be) some very short programming like "clear field sitter" duringday change. Of course i'm not that into the code and it can be much more difficult but

Personally, I would restrict the sitter's access rights. As a sitter, I can only access the Race, Chat, Forum and Manual tabs. Why should there be more?

Alternatively:
1.) When logged in in sitter mode, the spectator area is not longer accessible. All variants are displayed in the race chat as participants. Participants won't be deleted after the race only at day change.
  • Team A
  • Team B
  • Team X
  • Team X (Sitter 1)
  • Team X (Sitter 2)
  • Team Y
2.) No chance to inscribe as Sitter anymore.

Few things you describe are already implemented:
- sitter can't do much (no training, no finances, etc)
- the backdoor to inscriptions (from Home screen) is blocked now
- active sitters are now transparent for everyone

And I think the morning might not be enough to set a sitter each time. Sometimes you need a sitter BECAUSE you don't have any connection.
One more think to fix would be to disallow sitter access in 1-day races, that's not hard to implement.

how difficult would it be to also disable sitter access to teams you are racing against that day?
