Just writing this down as I've been asked for it a few times:
For each real race (or stage), announce here that you plan to design it, and then you start your Design process:
How to design a profile in 10 Steps
1) Build the stage in a navigation app (e.g. ridewithgps.com) based on the official race information (e.g. milanosanremo.it or lavuelta.es) and export as .gpx-file. Or, if availble, download the .gpx-file from la-flamme-rouge.eu after checking that it mirrors official information.
2) In cycling4freaks, Go to More > Editor > Profile Editor
3) Click on the green +
4) Click on Create GPX Profile
5) Select the file and upload
6) Click on Save
7) Then comes the important work on the details of each km.
..... a) You input the IS and KOM
..... b) You input some labels (cities and mountains)
..... c) If there is a circuit, you use the circuit and cut, copy, paste functionality
8) Review all important sectors (e.g. climbs, final 5km, pave)
..... a) Check if the sector has been ridden in-game and/or discussed in forum before
..... b) Search the Web for sources (la-flamme-rouge.eu, cyclingcols.com, climbfinder.com, etc.)
..... c) Compare results from a) and b).
..... d) In doubt, look at Google Maps / Street view.
..... e) Take a decision, or if still in doubt, consult the forum.
9) You save the profile and post it here in the forum.
10) If you are happy with your work, meaning it's final for you, you click on 'Start Review'.
That's it for the profile.
Ideally, you also insert the profile in the respective race:
1) Go to More > Editor > Race Editor
2) Search for the respective stage race (e.g. Milano - San Remo or La Vuelta), and click on the small pencil, which stands for 'edit'
3) Scroll down to 'Stages'
4) Click on the stage you want (again the small pencil/edit symbol)
5) Input the profile code and mintact
6) Save
Done.

My fellow cyclingfreaks: ask not what the game can do for you - ask what you can do for the game.
