2020 Season

Post by Gipfelstuermer » Thu Jan 02, 2020 2:43 pm

Hi all,

I just looked at February 2020 and realized we need to talk about all the parallel races. Some of the discussion is about February only, some is more general:

UCI ProSeries
The UCI ProSeries will be the second tier men's elite road cycling tour from its inaugural season in 2020. The series will be placed below the UCI World Tour, but above the various regional UCI Continental Circuits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCI_ProSeries

Some of the race categories will change. We always had that in the past, but it is a lot for 2020.

Question: Do we follow UCI or are we more individual?
--> If we follow, we will only ride 2.UWT and some 2.Pro, but 2.1 category will mostly have no chance. Even some 2.Pro we will have to kick out, I guess.
--> If we are individual, how can we be more individual? We always have the discussion for each month, which is very good. We are also more individual because we havee category 1-6, which is different from UCI. Nevertheless, it is difficult to decide between all the different races and then how we assign our categories to the races. February 2020 will be a very good example because there are so many small tours in parallel.
--> Can we have a system of how we select races? Some criteria? Maybe voting system? It is a very open question, I also don't have the solution. Maybe Roby and luques already have the perfect solution? I could imagine:

1.) All 2.UWT go into calendar.
2.) If no 2.UWT race, 2.Pro goes into calendar: We vote on all 2.Pro races.
3.) If no 2.UWT or 2.Pro race in the calendar, or if there is enough room for a parallel tour: We vote on all 2.1 races.

Not sure if it makes sense, but could be an idea to increase involvement of the community for calendar.

February 2020

Calendar is very full. Nice races.

26 Jan-02 Feb 2020 Vuelta a San Juan Internacional 2.Pro
04 Feb-08 Feb 2020 Saudi Tour 2.1
05 Feb-09 Feb 2020 Etoile de Bessèges 2.1
05 Feb-09 Feb 2020 Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2.1
05 Feb-09 Feb 2020 Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana 2.Pro
07 Feb-14 Feb 2020 PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2.Pro
14 Feb-15 Feb 2020 Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia "Costa Calida" 2.1
11 Feb-16 Feb 2020 Tour of Oman 2.Pro
11 Feb-16 Feb 2020 Tour Colombia 2.1
13 Feb-16 Feb 2020 Tour de la Provence 2.Pro
19 Feb-23 Feb 2020 Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol 2.Pro
19 Feb-23 Feb 2020 Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta 2.Pro
20 Feb-23 Feb 2020 Tour of Antalya 2.1
21 Feb-23 Feb 2020 Tour des Alpes Maritiimes et du Var 2.1
23 Feb-29 Feb 2020 UAE Tour 2.UWT
23 Feb-01 Mar 2020 Tour du Rwanda 2.1
23 Feb-01 Mar 2020 Tour of Hainan 2.Pro

Mainly I wondered because right now I have time to design... and don't know what to design... But also in general, important to think about how we select the right races for the community.

The way I see it this pro series is just what the old HC races were. Make it a series, just marketing.
Don't think for us anything really changes.

I sent Luques a draft in Dec, to be put on as PDF around the 15th, what in, what not I is always a mess in February.

Good bringing this up. In general, I agree with Roby. I would set the focus on the races with high category first and then build around them. Guess that's how it has been done so far anyway ;).

For February it gets a bit messy though, looking at the race calender. I can imagine something like this for February:

Stage races:

- San Juan
- Valenciana (maybe one out of Saudi Tour / Besseges / Herald Sun Tour in parallel)
- Oman / Provence
- Ruta del Sol (ends at 23)
- UAE (starts at 23, maybe Hainan in parallel)

One day races (UCI cat 1.1 or higher) and parallel tours:

01.02. Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana (San Juan)
02.02. Cadel Evans thingy (San Juan)
02.02. la Marseillaise (San Juan)
02.02. Playa de Palma - Palma (San Juan)
08.02. Tel Aviv Classic (Valenciana and maybe another one)
15.02. Malaysian International Classic Race (Oman, Provence)
16.02. Trofeo Laigueglia (Oman, Provence)
16.02. Almeria (Oman, Provence)
29.02. Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Elite (UAE, maybe Hainan)
29.02. Faun-Ardèche Classic (UAE, maybe Hainan)

For comparison, last year we had:

- Valenciana / Besseges
- Colmbia / Provence
- Oman
- Algarve / Ruta del Sol
- UAE

Lots of tours, lots of parallel tours and a lot of it was parallel regarding ending and starting dates too. Attendance was mixed but only two of them hat less than 5 participants: Oman at 11h (3) and Ruta del Sol at 24h (4), both "non-usual" times anyway.

Regarding one day races, it was worse looking at the participation. But again, lots of it with less than 5 participants was either low category races or again "non-usual" times, like Trofeo Laigueglia (cat. 3) at 12h. Overall 25 editions started with less than 5 participants, 64 with 5 to 9 and 35 with 10 or more, maximum was 15, twice (la Marseillaise 10h and Almeria 20h).
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

Hi there,

Corona has a little messed up the real calendar.
What are the plans in the game?
My planning was that I would still ride the giro and possibly the TdF and then my team would sell and build new ones.

If the Tdf is moved (in the game) then I will probably sell my team after the Giro. (which I would find a shame).

I would appreciate some information

best regards

See May thread, even if this one here might be better suited actually.

According to PCS the cycling calender for 2020, that will most likley start in August, will look like this (sorry for the format, too lazy to make it more presentable):

29.02 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Elite STUYVEN Jasper 1.UWT
08.03 - 15.03 Paris - Nice SCHACHMANN Maximilian 2.UWT
23.03 - 29.03 Volta Ciclista a Catalunya 2.UWT
27.03 E3 BinckBank Classic 1.UWT

16.08 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic 1.UWT
22.08 Milano-Sanremo 1.UWT
25.08 Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France 1.UWT
29.08 - 20.09 Tour de France 2.UWT
07.09 - 13.09 Tirreno-Adriatico 2.UWT

13.09 Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal 1.UWT
29.09 - 03.10 BinckBank Tour 2.UWT
30.09 La Flèche Wallonne 1.UWT
03.10 EuroEyes Cyclassics Hamburg 1.UWT
03.10 - 25.10 Giro d'Italia 2.UWT
04.10 Liège-Bastogne-Liège 1.UWT
10.10 Amstel Gold Race 1.UWT

14.10 Dwars door Vlaanderen - A travers la Flandre 1.UWT
18.10 Ronde van Vlaanderen - Tour des Flandres 1.UWT
20.10 - 08.11 La Vuelta ciclista a España 2.UWT
21.10 AG Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne 1.UWT
25.10 Paris-Roubaix 1.UWT
05.11 - 10.11 Gree-Tour of Guangxi 2.UWT

So, almost all important races will still be ridden in 2020, the three GTs, monuments and high categorised stage races and one day races.

Now, I guess we just ride the races again that we will have ridden already in the C4F calender?
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

I suggested so in this thread, but the response was overall negative, as summarized by the calendar organizer:

While it's nice to ride parallel to the real race, the idea to change to the new calendar from August on..... highly unconvinced, and unless there is a big huge enormous majority for that it won't happen. Doesn't seem to be the case anyway. So won't argue that.
So if people did not change their opinion, I assume we continue to ride the "old" UCI calendar.

Ha! I looked if there is a thread already about this topic and missed the obvious... :D. I continue in the designated thread then...
