Rennbericht 15.04.2026 Et2 O Gran Camino: Camiño de Lugo

Zweite Top10 Platzierung in Folge

Heute, liebe Leser*innen, halten wirs kurz und knackig, denn es war nicht so wirklich viel los auf der zweiten Etappe der Historienrundfahrt O Gran Camino. Spulen wir die ersten 140km also auf zweifacher Geschwindigkeit vor: Startschuss - 9-köpfige Gruppe - Donaldo und Teo dabei - Gruppe zerfällt bis zum Alto de Nocedo 20km vor dem Ziel - dort verschärfen die Bergfahrer erwartungsgemäß das Tempo.

Nun galt es für Sabando und Pinto dranzubleiben bzw. nicht zu weit zurückzufallen. Dies gelang recht gut. Beide zeigten sich trotz des neuerlichen Rummels um ihre Personen, aufgrund einer ausführlichen Berichterstattung auf der Plattform Youtube, bei der beide eine besondere Erwähnung fanden, gewohnt konzentriert und schafften den Sprung in die Verfolgergruppe, die sich aufmachte, den Vorsprung der Kletterspezialisten zu egalisieren. Da auch das gelang rollten beide Elmos zusammen mit den Besten gen Ziellinie und hielten im Massensprint nochmal voll rein. Es reichte immerhin für einen 7. Platz von Pinto und PLatz 18 für Sabando. Stefan Zander folgte auf Platz 26. Der gestern noch aufgrund seine fantastischen Manöver zum kämpferischsten Fahrer gewählte Dagoberto Pato ließ es heute eher mit Helferaufgaben im Feld betraut eher ruhig angehen und genoss seine erste Etappe mit einem Sondertrikot. Da am Berg die gestern noch so starken Flach-Zeitfahrer gesiebt worden, verbessert sich Sabando zwischenzeitlich auf den 3. Rang im Gesamtklassement. Auch Pinto verbesserte sich und bekleidet nun vorläufig Rang 10. Eine tolle Momentaufnahme und ein weiteres Zeichen, dass das Team auf einem guten Weg ist. Bereits am Ende dieses Weges angekommen scheint Thors faule Drachenbande, deren Klassikersprinter Amadeus Belette heute am Ende die Drachennase vorn hatte und den Zielsprint für sich entscheiden konnte. Race Report April 15, 2026, Stage 2 of the O Gran Camino: Camiño de Lugo

Second consecutive top-10 finish

Today, dear readers, we'll keep it short and sweet, as there wasn't much action on the second stage of the historic O Gran Camino tour. So let's fast-forward to the first 140km at double speed: Starting gun – 9-rider group – Donaldo and Teo among them – group breaks apart by the time they reach the Alto de Nocedo, 20km from the finish – where, as expected, the climbers up the pace.

Now Sabando and Pinto had to stay with the pack and not fall too far behind. They managed this quite well. Despite the renewed media attention surrounding them, due to extensive coverage on YouTube where they received special mention, both remained as focused as ever and managed to join the chasing group, which set out to close the gap on the climbing specialists. Having also succeeded in this, both Elmos rolled towards the finish line together with the leaders and gave it their all in the mass sprint. It was enough for 7th place for Pinto and 18th for Sabando. Stefan Zander followed in 26th place. Dagoberto Pato, who was voted the most combative rider yesterday due to his fantastic maneuvers, took it easy today, primarily focused on supporting roles in the peloton, and enjoyed his first stage wearing a special jersey. Since the flat time trialists, who had been so strong yesterday, were eliminated on the climb, Sabando temporarily improved to 3rd place in the overall standings. Pinto also improved and now provisionally occupies 10th place. A great snapshot in time and another sign that the team is on the right track. Thor's lazy Dragon gang, whose classics sprinter Amadeus Belette ultimately prevailed today and won the final sprint, seems to have already reached the end of this road. Congratulations!

Erneut gutes Mannschaftsergebnis

Die Etappenverläufe ähneln sich aktuell stark und wir möchten unsere Leser*innen auf keinen Fall ermüden, daher auch heute im Zeitraffer:
Startschuss - 9-köpfige Gruppe, nahezu identisch zur gestrigen - wieder Donaldo und Teo dabei - Gruppe wird nach der Tempoverschärfung am Pico Muralla noch vor dem Alto de Formaris gestellt - noch 20 Kilometer zum Ziel.

Den Massensprint im Feld der Kapitäne und Edelhelfer verhinderten heute aber zwei Attacken. Zander zeigte wieder ein gutes Näschen und packte zwar nicht den Sprung nach ganz vorn aber immerhin in die erste Verfolgergruppe. Er belohnte sich mit dem 9. Platz und damit der dritten Top10 Platzierung für Team Elmo in Folge. Das gute Teamergebis komplettierten Pinto und Sabando in Gruppe 3 auf Rang 18 und 20. In der Gesamtwertung gab es keine nennenswerten Verschiebungen. Diese werden für morgen erwartet, wenn es über deutlich bergigeres Terrain geht.

Race Report 16.04.2026 ET3 O Gran Camino: Camiño de A Coruña

Another good team result

The stages are currently very similar, and we don't want to bore our readers, so here's a quick recap: Start time - 9-rider group, almost identical to yesterday's - Donaldo and Teo are in it again - the group is caught after the increase in pace at Pico Muralla, before reaching Alto de Formaris - 20 kilometers to go.

Two attacks prevented a mass sprint among the team leaders and key domestiques today. Zander once again showed good instincts and, although he didn't quite make it to the very front, he did manage to get into the first chase group. He rewarded himself with 9th place, securing the third consecutive top-10 finish for Team Elmo. Pinto and Sabando completed the strong team performance, finishing in group 3 in 18th and 20th place respectively. There were no significant changes in the overall standings. These are expected tomorrow when the race takes place over considerably more mountainous terrain.

Donaldo heimst sich Ärger ein und spannendes Etappenfinale

Tag 4 in Nordspanien, Königsetappe und es wurde bergig. Die bei dieser Tour gewohnt dysfunktionale Gruppenzusammensetzung führte heute dazu, dass sich um Giacomo Sartore (Rsc Spree) eine Menge Begleiter scharrten. Wussten sie doch, dass er fürs Bergtrikot fahren würde. Mit dabei auch Donaldo Pato. Diese Gruppe hatte Bestand bis zum Alto de Cabeza de Meda - einer Kategorie-1 Bergwertung 40km vor dem Ziel. Bis dahin hatte Team Rsc Spree bereits 2 Helfer verschlissen und nun war Sartore selbst gefragt. Ohne auch nur einen Meter Hilfe in der Führungsarbeit zu bekommen, kämpfte er sich den Berg hinauf, um oben auf dem Wertungsstrich von Japans Luchs und Pato noch überholt zu werden, die bis dahin nur an seinem Hinterrad hingen. Nicht die feine englische Art...und auch nicht die feine kubanische. Nach deutlichen Worten von Sartore noch an Ort und Stelle, fand später auch Teamchef Elmo deutliche Worte für seinen jungen Schützling: "Das muss er anders lösen. Das ist auf gar keien Fall, wie wir hier arbeiten und zu Erfolg kommen wollen. Du hast am Ende des Tages nur deinen Namen und sonst nichts. Wir werden das ausführlich mit ihm besprechen."

Doch es wurde ja auch noch Rad gefahren. Denn der Alto de Cabeza de Meda - wie klangvoll kann ein Berg bitte benannt sein - läutete auch das Etappenfinale ein. Überstanden diesen noch beide ecuadorianische Elmos, war die erneute Tempoverschärfung für den etwas ermüdeten Sabando dann doch zu viel und er musste abreißen lassen. Glücklicherweise fand sich schnell eine Gruppe, in der er dem finalen Anstieg mit nur 15 Sekunden Abstand aufs Feld der Kapitäne, entgegenrollen konnte. Pinto schaffte den Anschluss, war von diesem Moment aber isoliert. Am finalen Schlussanstieg zeigten sich dann aber beide kämpferisch. Pinto gelang es, einen starken 9. Platz einzufahren und damit erneut ein Top10 Resultat für das junge Team. Sabando kam als 18. über die Ziellinie, Zander als 26. und mit Dagoberto Pato auf Platz 29 sogar noch ein vierter Elmo in den Top30.

Mit diesem Tages-Ergebnis gab es massive Verschiebungen im Gesamklassement, wenngleich auch der Gesamtführende Sadio Mané (Team Allrad) bleibt. Für Team Elmo stellt sich das neue Klassement wie folgt dar: Sabando fällt von Platz 3 auf 9 und Pinto verbessert sich auf Rang 12. Auch Stefan Zander klettert einige Plätze auf Platz 25. In Stein gemeißelt ist damit aber noch nichts, halten doch die letzten 60km der morgigen Schlussetappe noch drei Kategorie-2 Anstiege für die Kontrahenten bereit. Wir dürfen gespannt sein.

Race Report 17.04.2026 Et4 O Gran Camino: Camiño de Ourense

Donaldo gets into trouble and a thrilling stage finale

Day 4 in northern Spain, the queen stage, and it was mountainous. The characteristically dysfunctional group composition of this tour meant that a large group of companions gathered around Giacomo Sartore (RSC Spree). They knew he was aiming for the polka dot jersey. Donaldo Pato was among them. This group remained intact until the Alto de Cabeza de Meda – a Category 1 climb 40km from the finish. By then, Team RSC Spree had already lost two teammates, and now it was Sartore's turn to take charge. Without receiving a single meter of assistance at the front, he fought his way up the mountain, only to be overtaken at the summit by Japan's Lynx and Pato, who until then had been glued to his wheel. Not the English way...and not the Cuban way either. After Sartore's pointed remarks on the spot, team manager Elmo later had equally pointed words for his young protégé: "He has to handle this differently. This is absolutely not how we work here or how we want to achieve success. At the end of the day, all you have is your name and nothing else. We will discuss this with him in detail."

But there was still the cycling to be done. The Alto de Cabeza de Meda – how evocative a name can a mountain be – heralded the stage finale. While both Ecuadorian Elmos made it through, the renewed increase in pace proved too much for the somewhat fatigued Sabando, and he had to drop back. Fortunately, a group quickly formed, allowing him to roll towards the final climb just 15 seconds behind the peloton. Pinto managed to catch up, but from that moment on, he was isolated. On the final climb, both riders showed their fighting spirit. Pinto managed to secure a strong 9th place, once again achieving a top-10 result for the young team. Sabando crossed the finish line in 18th, Zander in 26th, and with Dagoberto Pato in 29th place, there was even a fourth Elmo rider in the top 30.

This day's result led to significant changes in the overall standings, although overall leader Sadio Mané (Team Allrad) remains in his position. For Team Elmo, the new standings are as follows: Sabando drops from 3rd to 9th place, and Pinto improves to 12th. Stefan Zander also climbs several places to 25th. However, nothing is set in stone yet, as the final 60km of tomorrow's stage still hold three Category 2 climbs for the competitors. We'll have to wait and see.

Knapp vorbei ist auch daneben

Schlussetappe - Tourfinale. Es galt, die gute Ausgangsposition einer Top 10 Platzierung ins Ziel zu fahren - Es sollte nicht gelingen. Doch von Beginn an: Etappenstart - Gruppe mit den üblichen Verdächtigen, darunter wieder Donaldo Pato, der als aussichtsreicher Kandidat auf einen Top 3 Platz in der Bergwertung ins Tourfinale ging und Uffe Lauritsen. Mit großem Kraftaufwand erreichte die Gruppe nach 114 Kilometern als erste den Alto da Portela. Und tatsächlich konnte Pato die Kategorie-2 Wertung für sich entscheiden und sich damit seine Position in der Bergwertung gar noch verbessern.

Über das Geschehen in der Spitzengruppe verpasste es Teamchef Elmo aber wichtige taktische Anweisungen an Sabando und Pinto im Peloton durchzugeben. Dort kam es zu einem Angriff, denn die Doppelspitze der Elmos schlicht verpasste. Nahezu alle Favoriten fuhren aus dem Peloton heraus zwischenzeitlich einen Vorsprung von fast 2 Minuten heraus. Zwar konnten Pinto und Sabando nach einer eifriger Aufholjagd, nahezu alle Klassiker am Schlussanstieg wieder einfangen, dennoch verloren sie eine unnötige Minute auf die Bergspezialisten und damit die Chance auf eine Top10 Platzierung im Gesamtklassement. Am Ende schaffte es Pinto noch auf Rang 11 in der Tageswertung und damit auch Rang 11 im Gesamtklassement. Sabando fiel mit Rang 14 auf der Schlussetappe letztlich auf Rang 12 im Gesamtklassement. Zander festigte mit Platz 24 in der Tageswertung Rang 25.

Tour-Resümee:

Insgesamt fährt Team Elmo damit zwar ein gutes Mannschaftsergebnis ein, das man vorher sicherlich so unterschrieben hätte. Dennoch bleibt ein fader Beigeschmack der verpassten Chancen: Ein Top10-Ergebnis wäre hier sicherlich drin gewesen, auch in der Teamwertung verpasste man mit Rang 6 nur haarscharf die bezahlten Ränge und schließlich landete Donaldo Pato in der Bergwertung punktgleich mit Rang 3 auf dem unglücklichen 4. Rang.

Race Report 19.04.2026 ET5 O Gran Camino: Camiño de Pontevedra

Close but no cigar

Final stage - Tour finale. The goal was to secure a top-10 finish from their strong starting position – but it wasn't to be. Let's start from the beginning: Stage start - a group with the usual suspects, including Donaldo Pato, who entered the Tour finale as a promising candidate for a top-3 finish in the mountains classification, and Uffe Lauritsen. With a tremendous effort, the group was the first to reach the Alto da Portela after 114 kilometers. And indeed, Pato managed to win the Category 2 classification, thus improving his position in the mountains classification.

However, due to the action in the leading group, team manager Elmo missed the opportunity to relay important tactical instructions to Sabando and Pinto in the peloton. An attack ensued, as Elmo's two leaders simply failed to notice. Almost all the favorites broke away from the peloton and at one point built up a lead of nearly two minutes. Although Pinto and Sabando, after a spirited chase, managed to recapture almost all the classic climbs on the final ascent, they still lost an unnecessary minute to the climbers and thus their chance of a top-10 finish in the general classification. In the end, Pinto managed to finish 11th in the stage and therefore also 11th in the overall standings. Sabando's 14th place on the final stage dropped him to 12th overall. Zander consolidated his 25th place overall with a 24th-place finish in the stage.

Tour Summary:

Overall, Team Elmo achieved a good team result, one they certainly would have welcomed beforehand. Nevertheless, a bitter aftertaste of missed opportunities remains: A top 10 result would certainly have been possible here, and in the team classification, they narrowly missed out on the paid places with 6th place, and finally, Donaldo Pato finished in an unfortunate 4th place in the mountains classification, tied on points with 3rd place.

Rennbericht 19.04.2026 Amstel Gold Race

Die einen kratzen am Bienenstich, die anderen an der Top10

Ohne Sabando, der sich von den jüngsten Tourstrapazen erholen sollte und Ulrich, dem das Profil nicht wirklich entgegenkam, reiste das Team ins niedländische Maastricht. Auf 257km und unzähligen kurzen aber steilen Rampen galt es dort, den Sieger des diesjährigen Amstel Gold Race zu ermitteln. Mit Blick auf den Energiehaushalt angesichts des vollen Rennkalenders verzichteten die Elmos heute auf eigene Attacken und blieben geschützt im Feld. Unruhe entstand erst, als Lauritsen, Tabarez und Calderon an Km 119 zu nah an einem Bienenstock entlangfuhren und mehrfach gestochen wurden. Das Trio, insbesondere Lauritsen hatte es übel erwischt, fiel sofort aus dem Feld zurück und musste das Rennen wenig später aufgeben. Gute Besserung!

Die verbleibenden 6 Elmos blieben ihrer Taktik treu und sammelten sich schützend um die heutige Doppelspitze Pinto/Woila. Insbesondere beide Pato-Brüder leisteten heute wertvolle Helferarbeiten und kämpften sich immer wieder ins Peloton zurück. Als sich 10km vor dem Ziel eine vier köpfige Gruppe um Jan Altmeier und Dominik Struff, beide vom Team Trojer Velau, Alponse de Preese (Team Fraegg) und den späteren Tagessieger Sajit Shrestha (Bahrain-Merida) aus dem Feld absetzen konnte, zog das ohnehin hohe Tempo nochmals an. Pinto schaffte am letzten Anstieg den Sprung in die Verfolgergruppe und überquerte die Ziellinie auf einem guten 11. Platz. Woila kam in Gruppe 4 ins Ziel und holte dort nach einem tollen Sprint noch den 22. Rang.

Als nächstes geht's - so hört man es die Spatzen von den Dächern rufen - für einige Tage in die Alpen. Hier könnte es auf redaktioneller Ebene zu Änderungen kommen. Denn aufgrund personeller Engpässe sind wir noch nich sicher, ob wir es wie gewohnt schaffen, die einzelnen Etappen zu covern oder ob es diesmal eine ausführliche Tour-Review geben wird.

Race Report April 19, 2026 Amstel Gold Race

Some are scratching at the bee sting, others at the top 10

Without Sabando, who was recovering from the recent Tour de France exertions, and Ulrich, for whom the course profile didn't really suit, the team traveled to Maastricht in the Netherlands. The 257km course, featuring countless short but steep climbs, was set to determine the winner of this year's Amstel Gold Race. Mindful of their energy levels given the packed race calendar, the Elmos refrained from launching their own attacks and stayed safely within the peloton. The only disruption came when Lauritsen, Tabarez, and Calderon rode too close to a beehive at kilometer 119 and were stung multiple times. The trio, especially Lauritsen, was badly affected, immediately dropped back from the peloton, and had to abandon the race shortly afterward. Get well soon!

The remaining six Elmos stuck to their tactics and formed a protective group around today's leading duo, Pinto and Woila. In particular, both Pato brothers provided invaluable support today, repeatedly fighting their way back into the peloton. When a four-man group consisting of Jan Altmeier and Dominik Struff (both from Team Trojer Velau), Alponse de Preese (Team Fraegg), and the eventual stage winner Sajit Shrestha (Bahrain-Merida) broke away from the field with 10km to go, the already high pace increased even further. Pinto managed to join the chase group on the final climb and crossed the finish line in a respectable 11th place. Woila finished in group 4 and, after a fantastic sprint, secured 22nd place.

Next up – or so the word on the street is – a trip to the Alps for a few days. This information may be subject to change at the editorial level. Due to staffing shortages, we are not yet sure whether we will be able to cover the individual stages as usual, or whether there will be a detailed tour review this time.
