Motivation riding in jerseys

Post by Lizard » Wed May 26, 2010 1:31 pm

We know from many races that wearing a leaders jersey for example can make a rider set free powers he does not usually have. You can reach over your limits because you have a higher motivation to keep the jersey. I don´t think examples are necessary to show, everyone knows the leaders jersey can give "wings". How about a little bonus for riders in that jersey? Maybe 0.5 skills points? Most tours are decided, especially Grand Tours, with a time trial in the end or a real big climb. We can see riders like Gamovs or Coulieus wearing the leaders jersey in the middle of a tour. I had Königsbauer wear the Maglia Rosa for a whole week in the Giro 09, in the end he was second with minutes behind Slagmolen. Nevertheless, it might do a race more open for riders who by accident wear a leaders jersey and might do a little impact on the GC, but not too much. Is there interest in this ?

Well, i like this idea, really... Would put fun in the race for sure! But ok, is this realistic to do it only for the leader jersey. I think for example to Ritchie Porte, second of the Giro yesterday and who surely had too this push of energy and strength cause of his great gk place!!! And what about a downfall after the loose of the jersey?? I don't really know but there can be a lot of psychologic impact on a big Tour :-) What about the pressure to win a jersey and so on!!

But anyway, we can limit the discussion to the leader jersey... And add a bonus sounds good to me :-)

Maybe we could get that as early as today before the 20h stage? :)

Yes, Escobar is also a good example. And of course I was thinking of other jerseys aswell. We could put a different value due to the cat of the race. The more important, the bigger the impact. But it should just be a little add, not a whole technical part. So I guess for losing jerseys better not implement this to make it not too important.

I would not have said it this way, but i also don't like the idea.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.
