Re: Afternoon Giro 2011!

Re: Afternoon Giro 2011!
I almost totally agree with Allagen. But of course not the think with the "jammern". I was not complaining. Just to mention that. Of course I knew I won't have a chance for a sprint alone by myself. I could not keep my flat riders fit without risking a totally GC failure. So I had the idea of keeping Schmarotz and Granvorka fit. Granvorka then should do the first ups and downs and afterwards, Tim and Fred would join, as they did.
In the end it was a nice stage with a bit a surprising end.
Today, I think can have a comfi stage myself... Demuth or another team with a good classic rider is much more probable. Ok, as I have a look at the profile, I see Equipe M. and Bergw. in a good position. Or a Climber with good sprintskills. Whatever. Go Garrido!

I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.
Re: Afternoon Giro 2011!
today it will be not easy for the normal classic riders, but it is possible. but i think that Equipe Mathematique is to strong with schrödi and heusler. like fl said, bergwerk or some climbers with good sprint can win too. i hope that lutz putz and co can come back, but its not really flat in the end

Re: Afternoon Giro 2011!
Strade Bianche today.... we'll see what happens. 2 teams certainly will have to try to win some time, petit Singe and Equipe Mathématique... we'll see if they manage.
The climbers and their pavé
Magallon, 66,3 but presumably helping Dodo
Fahrny+Schrödinger 63.9
Urganov 62,6
Bellinckx 58,1, but Gaurain announced to stop his participation after Wouter Weylandts tragic death
O'Donnel 57,6, but probably nr 2 in his team
Rondeau 57, surely nr 1 in his team.
Corvia 56,9
Watson 55,5 nr 2 behind Dodo
Sveringson+ Eickendreyer 54,9
Mastrangelo 54,3
Bergauf 54,2
Nipp 54
Agger 53,3 The best of the 88 with 10 points less than Fahrny-Schrödinger
Stockdale 52,6
Konz 52,5
Gimondi 52
Erdemann 50,9
Toporidis 49,2
Girard 49,1
Ha, wrote down all 80+ climbers
I actually don't expect huge differences, smaller ones very likely yes, but even that is not guaranteed, since the strade Bianche are everything but flat this year. And then there are 10+flat km before the final climb.
Race nr 2 is for the stage win, first question here of course who will be helping the leader(s), who will be riding for stage glory, and maybe rosa. Expect Pandev to go for the defense of rosa, which shouldn't be impossible.
Looking forward to it anyway... let's hope to see a good race. The real start of the GC today... after today it will be a GC stage every second day.. at least.

Re: Afternoon Giro 2011!
Not an especially good day yesterday...
Shitty connection, like last year at the beginning actually, maybe a good sign... the strade Bianche in 2010 was similar to today, connection wise, just then I had Ticos to do the (excellent) riding for me, this time not... Could, should, have been more time to the 88. But the damn connection made me nervous... was calculating and recalculating at what time what km would be, since I didn't really see all... had to reopen a tab in another browser every 5-10' then started of well, deteriorating, then nothing anymore, new tab in another browser again, same story. Plan was clear... Sieb at the +3 after the 8 without pavé. Sieb before by Potts, which actually surprised me... well not the sieb, but that Haryono was still there. I had thought there Qian in, in the back Haryono in, wait for Urganov, both not fighting, then ride with Haryono either until the 4-5, then Qian, or if the Qiangroup in front goes, which I would have like but didn't expect until the last pavé mountain. Then the weak Potts Sieb.... There I even saw the km, quite a lot of it actually, just.... don't know, Haryono there kind of threw me off, just missed it, put in Bakhtiyar in the back, made Haryono help Urganov, lots of things, just didn't do the tempo.. Idiot. Then -2, tried, thought at least some would fight, or Girard dropped maybe, nothing... then the +4, thought it was too late for gaining significant time anyway, but try... there the sieb was there, just not as strong as actually hoped. Watson, Corvia still there wasn't planned.... then ride with Qian, at the mountain gain time with Fahrny, that dropped Heuser from Mathe, not perfect, but well... then ride... then... ok, all that happens is the other classics attack, maybe with Schrödinger on the wheel (which then might block the attack actually, but only thought of that afterwards) I kill Qian to 500 or less, carry Schrödinger who will gain time, carry Corvia who will ride for Pandev first, carry half the world and kill Qian... no... ok, out, Lutz attacks, the 2 other classics follow, the group behind, around 20 already then? Comes back, Haryono there, he rides, with Heuser and Möbius, later Bojinov from Lecce too. Still gained 39" on the Agger/Erdemann/Girard group.. .but that's not really enough. Ok, wasn't sure to gain anything before, but the way the race developped should have gained more. The early sieb that I mysteriously missed... then maybe in the back the group doesn't become that big, maybe it's more 1 vs 1, which certainly would have helped me. Not against Schrödinger, but against everybody else, maybe there I manage to make Corvia, Watson fight for example, then dropped at the 4, or if they don't fight yet, like mine didn't, then behind my 2 guys. Then IMO 1' would have been gotten, thinking it over even more... wouldn't have gone out with Qian if there was a chance for a bigger gap... that cost another 10" or so finally. Earlier sieb, bigger gap from the sieb, then probably not much gained until the 4, but everybody already weaker, and for sure fighting against each other in the beginning. Then forgot the Urganovsieb in the back too... or maybe he was still in an intermediate group then...so well, 39". Better than nothing...
The tempo before... for me the group going throught would have been ok basically, and they were through, if they just would have ridden. Easily, they didn't, some safety tempo in the back to discourage brillant BW/Allagen farmer tricks was necessary there..
Outlook now, more than ever Girard/Agger/Erdemann the favorites...Yes, despite Bergwerk complaining about those 15" or so he lost by being offline the first 5 km in the TTT, he is obviously still in there... he's 50" behind Girard, 4" behind Agger... including the last TT he should be within 20" of Girard and in front of Agger... stronger team.. he's there. What might be decisive between the 3 first is the stage wins. Montevergine, Etna, Castelfidardo, Grossglockner, Zoncolan, Gardeccia, Macugnaga, Sestriere..8 stages with 20"-12"-8" available for those 3... winning all 8 (which is unlikely of course is worth 2'40". Of course those 3 won't always get the 3 first places, but more often than not they will be in the 3 first places... by that eliminating most of the other opponents just by the bonifications. And between them it might turn out to be decisive too. 40" one way or the other can decide it, very likely will. the Sprint value is very similar, 48-51-52.. .the form... we'll see. haven't really bothered to try to figure it out... of the 3 the one with the least chances right now for me is Agger. 1 including the TT last of the 3 already now. 2. Demuth is not always online it seems.
But promises to be an open fight between the 3 anyway... and if they block themselves maybe the other contenders that are still waiting in the shadows all of the sudden could get their chances too.
So now

hm dont really saw the necessity to sieb on the 7** with Qian and ride, what was your plan? riding with qian the whole time to the mountain? Or was it just opening the stage for the classics? Everyone riding anti Schrödinger here it seems.
