STAGE 17:
STAINT-PAUL - SUPERDEVOLUY, MOUNTAIN, 178 KM

Today was another typically terribly fast high-speed stage - much too fast, you can't eat that much pasta in the evening to replenish your energy.
At the start of the stage, Furpach took heart and sent 4 riders into the desert, including a Bright. But with a gap of 2 minutes, the Alkworlds followed at top speed. The moaning of some of the climbers in the peloton was unmistakable.
Sprint for points for green at km 115: Bican 8 points, Brown 7 and Hawthorne 2. Canek, who scored 10 points, could still sprint for third place in the green ranking at the end.
From km 115, Alkworld continued to keep up with the pace in the peloton. Bitter for the Furpachs with a 1 minute lead. Jape Thayer took the first KOM. After that, it was just a GC battle. Right at the start of the climb, Golding increased the pace, only 7 riders in front, behind him the group with Sawchuk (White). At the very next km, Sanchez could no longer ride with Golding.
Sprint for the bonus seconds at km 166: Golding 8'', Selassie 5'' and Mao 3''.
Gap before the downhill 13'' to Sanchez (yellow), Tsepeneag and 46'' to the Sawchuk (white) group. First km of the last climb, Selassie fell behind with his helper.
At the end 1st Golding, 2nd Mao and 3rd Shaw.
Golding made up 24" on Selassie and 59" on Sanchez today. These will be hot last days, especially if Sanchez and Selassie continue to ride as passengers. Relying on the ITT might not be enough for the Tour victory. But Golding has to do more than 2min gap before ... or so :)

Stage:
1. Golding (Alkworld)
2. Mao (Bright)
3. Shaw (Alkworld)

STAGE 18:
GAP - BARCELONNETTE, HILLY, 180 KM

Today again a group with 2 Furpachs, 2 Schnuggeritos and 2 Bon Gamins with Brown for the IS.
Up to km 116 the group had a lead of 11 minutes - but then Bright's split the peloton into 2 parts and continued to ride at a fast pace, the second half were not interested in following, but watched somewhat astonished as to why the Brights were pushing the pace so much.
Km 155 Bright lost the pace - dangerous for attacks - only a few flat specialists left in the second group.
Km 166 attacks Narrenparty with Selassie, some hang, but some do not, e.g. the 4th in the GC up to that point, Fong Mao (Bright) - otherwise all the GC guys in the front group with Selassie. There must be a lot of fear of Mao, because Zizou and Selassie worked together to distance him. At the end there is a gap of about 1 minute between Sanchez and Mao's group.
Fryxelius wins the stage ahead of Alcantara and Brown. Brown is now guaranteed the green jersey when he crosses the finish line on Sunday. Everything else is still wide open.

1. Fryxelius (Schnuggeritos)
2. Alcantara (Furpach)

SIDELETTER FOR THE LAST 2 DAYS IN THE MOUNTAINS:

As a side letter, I would like to analyse the facts that will possibly be decisive for the next two days. Apart from the picture of the day, the facts on the last climb, there are other interesting things.
Alkworld has the best average value on the mountain if we count the riders with 60 or more mountain skill.
Alkworld 8 riders, zizou 6 and Narrenparty 6.
But what could be more important for the next two days, is that Alkworld has by far the best downhillers in this group of 60 or more mountain skill.
So I would think there will be a lot of movement over the next 2 days. Narrenparty has to do something, Alkworld maybe not, and zizou needs help from a team, but Schartner will be too weak and Tornado won't ride.
But crystal ball talk - we'll see.

STAGE 19:
EMBRUN - ISOLA 2000, MOUNTAIN, 145 KM

Up to km 21, it was a battle for the sprint points today. Then Thayer (Bright) tried to attack for the first KOM. Alkworld wanted to catch him again. At km 35, Sieb, probably from Narrenparty, but we didn't see it exactly. In any case, Narrenparty then went full speed towards HC. Thayer took the points at the HC, Narrenparty continued to ride at the speed - the 3 GC teams all with the same number of helpers in the front group.
At km 71, Shaw (Alkworld) increased the pace for Golding, followed by Selassie, Asfaw (both Narrenparty) and Mao (Bright). Shaw at full speed towards the 2nd HC where Golding took the 20 points.
The gap to Sanchez (zizou) was already 3'14'', Shaw (Alkworld) has fallen 24'' behind due to Golding's increased pace - only 40 km downhill and then 15 km uphill to go - but Narrenparty didn't want to ride.
At km 98, everything was back together again, Zizou was in control.
Right at the entrance to the climb, Golding increased the pace, some riders fell out of the group. At km 132, Golding picks up the pace briefly and none of the GC guys followed him. Very brave not to block Golding. In the end, Golding (Alkworld) makes up 46'' and slips into the yellow jersey, 2nd Mao (Bright) and 3rd Sanchez (zizou).

How will the GC battle turn out for tomorrow?
With another win - like that gap - tomorrow, it might be enough for Golding against Selassie, against Sanchez it will take a bit more.
But, crystal ball talk - a lot depends on the form on Sunday.

Picture should only show the first three riders in the GC with their helpers and show the difference.
