Tour de France 2024 - morning edition

Post by zizou » Fri Jun 14, 2024 10:47 am

We are already excited to ride the Tour de France 2024.
Here is our lineup:

1 - Florencio Sánchez

Our leader who gave us a lot fun during the Giro. We hope he maybe trains 1-2 times before or during the Tour, otherwise it could be difficult to go for podium again or even more.

2 - Luis Arrazola

Helper. Maybe will have a chance at the Pave stage, but pretty sure he needs to stay with his leader.

3 - Luis Lacalle

Flat+Reg Helper.

4 - Tabaré Mujica

Our best classic will be an important helper.

5 - Hirving Ochoa

Feels like he needs to get the respect he deserves and be part of the tour team.

6 - Edson Romo

Classic helper.

7 - Vlad Ticleanu

Flat+Reg Helper.

8 - Dumitru Tsepeneag

Second mountain rider to support Sánchez. 1-2 trainings would be good for him too.

9 - Nathan Wengungo

Classic helper

Again we give Sánchez the best support we can, 625k salary!

Team Alkworld will also be there with a similar lineup like for the Giro. Goals will depend on who else is there, but ideally it's to win everything of course.

Schnuggeritos wil be part of TdF (morning edition), too. We don't have a specific strategy by now but at least some options.

Option 1: Fight for green by winning stages with Canek and Pariseau and suck on the climbs with Cippola for some GC Money.
Option 2: Fight for green and polka dot
Option 3: Escape as often as possible and go on a hunt for Money on the road (no focus on points), maybe some stage wins possible.

No names will be droped today, but you can count on some of our high-reg guys. More from us later this week.

STAGE 2:
CESENATICO > BOLOGNE, HILLY, 198KM

PIC OF THE DAY
Image

STORY OF THE DAY
Some attack attempts in the first 10 km but Alkworld rode the "Stutterer" - so no big group could get away. Then a group formed with 4 men 1 woman - 1 Furpach, 3 Schartners and 1 Schnuggi. But it was hard to get further away because Alk Vader wanted to show his power again. Up to km 108 everything just trundled along, the gap was never bigger than 3':30". The Schartners stopped riding. Then Clement (from Schnuggi) tried an attack, but couldn't get away. Then the second Undead Spriit (from Furpy) of the group woke up and rode fast. But it didn't really make sense.
So the peloton was soon closed and the fight for the bonus seconds at the last Kom began. Sawchuk 8", Selassie 5" and Asfaw 2" took them.
Then Alk-Vader started to take the air out of the rest of the peloton. Speed and attacks followed one after the other, the leading group became smaller and smaller and most of those at the front were struggling for air. Alk won the sprint of the four-men leading group (must be his 33th Tourstage win, first Tour 1977). Asfaw could take seconds again for the GC fight. So Asfaw was very very lively today.

Stage:
1. Hawthorne (Alkworld)
2. Clouds (Bright)
3. Asfaw (Narrenparty)

GC Podium:
1. Hawthorne (Alkworld)
2. Asfaw (Narrenparty)
3. Clouds (Bright)
Laterne Rouge: Gullar (Alkworld)

Leader Jerseys:
Green: Hawthorne (Alkworld)
Red: Thayer (Bright)
White: Sawchuk (Schartner Bombe)
Team: Alkworld
Most active Rider:Tveit (Bon Gamin)

Tourstage wins after 2 Stages:
2x Hawthorne (Alkworld)

WHAT WILL COME NEXT?
We'll see if it stays a galactic tour. Tomorrow it's the flat-rollers' turn.

STAGE 3:
PLAISANCE - TURIN, FLAT, 232 KM

STORY OF THE DAY
Today it was the sprint teams' turn. The whole thing started like "Internationale Friedensfahrt(DE), Wyścig Pokoju(POL), Závod Míru(CZE) also called Course de la Paix(FRA)" - Definitely a lot of dreams and energy-sleeping in the Peloton. At km 43 it almost happened - DJ Wurstfinger (Manager of the Furpachs) could no longer hold back his energy and - attac with Alcantara and Bettel. Surprising that GC favorite Zizou and semi-favorite for a mass sprint with one rider involved? Peloton fell asleep again till km 87.
Call of duty from DJ Wurstfinger again - he sent two guys more - Taylor (favo on white) and Kalpokas (a kind of "Reserve-Wango"), with a rider from Tornado hanging on to them, namely Modric (favo on white). All still drunk from yesterday, they wanted to get bonus seconds where there were none.
Then it rolled along again - until km 211 where the late attack started. 2 Furpachs, 1 Alkworld, 1 Bright and 1 Zizou again (another surprise for the sprinter teams). The sprinter teams were not able to close the gap. It will be interesting when the GC teams beg for help on the flat stages. But that was it for this stage.
A win by 1. Arrazola (Zizou), 2. Mata (Furpach), 3. Geurtbraaij (Bright) - 4. Bunuel (there to defend the green jersey) and 5. Scheving (Furpach) which initiated this attack.
Peloton with 22" behind in the end. As it looks today, sprinter teams are not able to ride for an MS. And another surprise, a win from Ochoa (Zizou) in the sprint of the peloton. Maybe a Pyrrhic victory - we will see when Zizou is in yellow and needs help in flat.

Stage:
1. Arrazola (zizou)
2. Mata (Furpach)
3. Geurtbraaij (Bright)

GC Podium:
1. Hawthorne (Alkworld)
2. Asfaw (Narrenparty)
3. Clouds (Bright)

White: Sawchuk (Schartner Bombe)
Team: Alkworld
Most active Rider: ?

Tourstage wins after 3 Stages:

STAGE 4:
PINEROLO-VALLOIRE, MOUNTAIN, 140 KM

Today we rode the mountain where Jan Ullrich went through hell in 1998. We started with some tempo by the sprinter teams to get the IS. Attacks by Furpach and Schartner thwarted the peloton’s plans. After that attacks again - last from Thayer (Bright) for Red-Jersey. Peloton chased hard.
Then the "Siebing-Party" began at km 66 - Narrenparty increased the tempo. Thayer (Bright) took the 2nd KOM at Col de Montgenevre too. From this km it was Narrenparty time. Finger on the trigger and go - maybe we need an interview with the manager to find out why and what that achieved. Maybe only to go for bonus sprint.
At km 113 the "Sieb" for ... or rather against Nathaniel(Alkworld)- GC riders together in a group. 2nd group with Nathaniel (yellow) and Sawchuk (white) tried to catch up. But that didn't work. GC sprint 1st Sánchez(Zizou), 2nd Asfaw and 3rd Selassie(both Narrenparty).
Our summary: Narrenparty due to constant tempo gives away seconds to Zizou. Maybe better to wait for Nathaniel and take seconds against the opponent rider from Zizou.
Zizou - The White Cat - La Chatte Blanche - won again. We think he could put his stamp on this tour.

Stage:
1. Sánchez (zizou)
2. Asfaw (Narrenparty)
3. Selassie (Narrenparty)

GC Podium:
1. Hawthorne (Alkworld)
2. Selassie (Narrenparty)
3. Asfaw (Narrenparty)

Red: Thayer (Bright)
White: Sawchuk (Schartner Bombe)
Team: Alkworld
Most active Rider: Merx

Tourstage wins after 4 Stages:
2x Hawthorne (Alkworld)
1x Arrazola (Zizou)
1x Sánchez (Zizou)

Sanchez and Selaisse both gained 12 bonus seconds on this stage so i guess Narren is fine.

But yeah winning some seconds vs Sanchez wouldnt have hurt.

STAGE 5:
ST. JEAN-DE-MAURIENNE - ST. VULBAS, FLAT, 177 KM

Today was another day for the sprinters. We already know very well what that means in a morning edition of the Tour. Flat means in the morning that the team with the best sprinter attacks at km 1 or 2 with two riders, then the sprinter and GC teams discuss whether to work together or not. First they chase each other until all the riders are back in the peloton. Every Tour in the morning is a kind of ritual on the flat stage :-) It is a worship of the mass sprint, which only happens very rarely.
So for the first 30km a few guys were out, in the peloton Bon Gamin and Zizou followed each with one rider. At km 31 the peloton was together again.
At km 38 an attack by the Israeli champion (Segev) and the Canadian champion (Bowie), both from the Schartners. At first it looked as if they just wanted to show off their jerseys, but then they carried on until the last KOM.
Then the decisive move of the day - "Sieb" - Golding (Alkworld) in tempo and the peloton exploded - the sprinters were split up.
Now the discussion about cooperation between the sprinters took on a new dimension. Schnuggi did not wait for Bon Gamin, who had fallen even further behind. There were still 30km to go?
At the front, Furpach took over the work and did a gap of 12" to the Schnuggi group and 25" to the Zizou-Bon Gamin group.
The "Team Narrenparty Show" started at km 151. If we remember, Narrenparty also rode at great speed yesterday, but today he was even stronger - unbelievable. He could hold a gap around 10"-15" to the Schnuggi Group.
At km 166 the gap had shrunk to 9" - now Ewodo (Schartners) started to help. At km 171 the gap was only 2" - then Safo (Narrenparty) from the Schnuggi group attacked - a flat specialist and the gap grew steadily again. The attack at km 175 in the frontgroup was nipped in the bud immediately.
It was time for the sprint preparations - first group 36 riders - 2nd group 32 riders, 46" back.
So actually a mass sprint of the peloton - very confusing :-)

Stage:
1. Bican (Schartner Bombe)
2. Teodosic (Tornado Team)
3. Porkanen (Narrenparty)

GC Podium:
1. Hawthorne (Alkworld)
2. Selassie (Narrenparty)

STAGE 9
TROYES-TROYES, FLAT WITH GRAVEL, 199 KM

Today it was gravel time. A few attacks at the beginning. The race really started from km 51 - Odenetti (Alkworld) increased the pace - the peloton exploded for the first time.
km 67 2nd time and so on. Around km 85 more attacks from the guys from Furpach - Scheving, one of the stage favorites, was also there. Guys from Schnuggeritos and Bright attacked behind.
Halfway through the stage, not much had happened in the GC.
The breakaway riders had a lead of 4'30". km 105 the first hard "Sieb" against the GC riders. Selassie (Narrenparty) could no longer hold the rear wheel of Sanchez (Zizou). From now on the speed racing began. Alkworld interested in a fast race at the speed.
km 123 the gap between Sanchez and Selassie was 30". After the last ramp, the gap increased to 50". Now Zizou had to ride alone and Narrenparty's boys were able to catch up a bit.
The last 30km saw the start of the battle for the day's victory - not good for Narrenparty, who had to ride alone at the back. Next attack by 2 Schnuggerito' boys. Zizou, Alkworld and Schartner followed with hard tempo.
The gap between the peloton and the Narrenparty group was around 25" at km 172. Strong from Narrenparty, alone against 3 teams, he was able to reduce the gap again, but after the gravel passages 20 km before the end, it swelled back to 30". Then Ewodo (Schartner Bombe) was in tempo - 12 boys now fighting for the day's victory. Sanchez Group 36" ahead of Selassie Group.
On the last gravel passage Zizou back in the peloton and 50" on the Narrenparty group. And then attack in the day group. Clement (Schnuggeritos) with a strong attack, Bican (Schartner Bombe) with an attack 3" behind - another 8 guys 3" behind Bican. Bican droped back in the group - but its enough for Clement (Schnuggeritos) he won, 2nd Bican (Schartner Bombe) and 3rd Pun (Furpach) in the sprint of the 8 guys group behind.
In GC, Sanchez (Zizou) takes 1'33" on Selassie (Narrenparty). Also 3rd in the GC so far, Zhu loses 1' and 3rd place overall to Hawthorne.
In the Tornado team there is likely to be a dispute over the captaincy between Zhu and Modric (who ended up in the Sanchez group). But nothing has been decided yet. Yellow and all other jerseys still open. Only White is decided if nothing unforeseen happens.

New status after 9 stages:

GC Podium:
1. Sanchez (Zizou)
2. Selassie (Narrenparty)
3. Hawthorne (Alkworld)
Laterne Rouge: Buller(Schartner Bombe)

STAGE 11
EVAUX LE BAINS - LE LIORAN, MAOUNTAIN, 211 KM

Let's get straight to the highlights today. Hectic start, the sprinter teams want to get to the IS. So each group is caught up again. At km 65 sprint of the peloton: 1st Pariseau (Schnuggeritos), 2nd Bican (Schartner Bombe) and 3rd Canek (Schnuggeritos). In the battle for the sprint jersey, important points for Bican - Brown only 5th and Hawthorne only 13th. Up to the final climb, there are a huge number of attacks (Schnuggeritos is involved in almost all of them) and a kind of interval training in the peloton. On each steeper ramp, one rider can no longer keep up. At km 180 the first major bang. The GC rider group only has 11 riders. Second decisive bang at km 193 - Hawthorne (Alkworld), Modric (Tornado Team), Shaw (Alkworld) and Reid (Schartner Bombe) can no longer keep up. One km later, Zhu (Tornado Team), the man in the white jersey, cannot keep up with the pace.
The gap between the GC-Reiter group and the Hawthorne-Zhu group grows to 39". Zizou and Narrenparty apparently want to keep Hawthorne at a distance. Then at km 207 comes the final bang - a strong attack by Golding (Alkworld) that cannot be caught.
1st Golding (Alkworld), 2nd Selassie and 3rd Asfaw (both Narrenparty). Selassie again makes up important seconds on Sanchez. Selassie also scores important points for the mountain jersey. Hawthorne (Alkworld) comes 8th and scores points for the sprint jersey. Sawchuk (Schartner Bombe) can keep up with the pace almost until the end and makes up 17 seconds in the battle for the white jersey - today it looks as if this has not yet been decided.

STAGE 12
AURILLAC - VILLENEUVE SUR LOT, FLAT, 204 KM

Today it was show time on the flat again. A group was put together straight away. Furpach 2, Schartner Bombe 2 and Schnuggeritos 1 rider. The team in the yellow jersey didn't want to let the group get too far away and rode behind them at a gap of 5 minutes. Things didn't look good for the group at the start. Apart from that, it didn't look good for the group anyway, with only 2 pullers and over 200 km to ride. At the 1st KOM the gap was about 9 minutes. At the IS it was only 5 minutes - the peloton had increased the pace. Behind the breakaway riders, Hawthorne and Bican attacked and sprinted for important points in the battle for green. Hawthrone 10, Bican 9 and Brown 6 points - so a lot of effort for nothing from the two in the attack - Pyrrhic victory. After the town of Gourdon, the breakaway riders lost contact with the team cars. Only Fryxelius (Schnuggeritos) stayed true to his mission and kept up with the pace for the 15 km without a radio. Furpach's rider and Schartner's were no longer sure what their mission was today.
Strange, but the only radio that worked was the one to the Alkworld team car - which now gave the order to keep going and win. Let's be honest, which rider can resist an order like that? So full speed towards the finish. About 100 km to go and a gap of 5 minutes to the peloton. One team after another woke up in the peloton and helped to catch up a bit. Nevertheless, things were looking good for the breakaway group at the 10 km mark - 01:18 gap. Even up to the 5 km mark, the peloton could only make up 5 seconds, which was not enough. Then the death of the breakaway group, Narrenparty woke up and helped for the last 5 km - bitter for the group, last km catch. Mass sprint. Kyle "Brown Sugar" Brownie did it again!!! 3rd stage win for him.

PIC OF THE DAY.
It shows the analysis of Brownie's (Bon Gamin) three sprint victories and his way into the sprint jersey. You can see that his body position on the bike is becoming more and more extreme - absolutely focused on winning. But it seems as if it is getting harder and harder for him. We are excited to see what position he takes in the next victory. If he even finishes again after tomorrow's stage - the mountains are coming and it will be tough.

STAGE 13
AGEN - PAU, FLAT, 165 KM

The incredible story of the day began at km 11. Hans"olo" Geurtbraaij (Bright) was in front with a gap of 01:52.
Then at km 11 the whooper from Jape Thayer (Bright) - he attacked and at one km he was 23 seconds ahead of the peloton - the man in the mountain jersey was to maintain this explosiveness until the end. The gap to the peloton had grown to 09:26 at km 31.
At km 47 the gap leveled off at 7 minutes. There was a hectic pace in front of the IS and at km 95 there were 3 Schnuggerito riders in pursuit of Thayer (Bon Gamin).
The peloton around Hathorne (Alkworld) had actually agreed to ride together from km 127. But when Thayer took the lead the gap to the peloton increased again to 08:30. Only 40km left to ride, so Thayer's trip was as good as a success. In the battle for green, however, Hawthorne was able to leave the sprinters behind and finally make up points on Brownie. Bican's sprint show today, "to the left, to the right, ..." should put him out of the green business. The Furpachs were the ones who showed off today, taking second and third place in the mass sprint behind Thayer. 2nd Garth Taylor (22, new star from Furpachs) did seconds for the White Jersey - as we know, Furpach never gives up. We bet we'll see more of him in the Tour.

Impressive win by Thayer, especially considering the bikes of Team Bright. Maybe we need to consider collecting for him to get an upgrade :D

STAGE 14
PAU-ST. LARY-SOULAN, MOUNTAIN, 152 KM

Let's look at what happened today. First there was a 4 man leading group with 2 Furpachs and 2 Schnuggeritos. At km 70 there was a gap of 5:30, where Brownie (Bon Gamin) scored 11 points with an intelligent attack. The two current competitors for the green jersey - Bican (Schartner Bobme) 7 and Hawthorne (Alkworld) 5. After that the fight for the KOM points began for the breakaway riders and the GC fight in the peloton. At km 82 Alkworld rode faster and 1/3 of the peloton said goodbye to the back. On the descent after the Tourmalet only Yamaguchi (Schnuggeritos) was in front. Zizou took command of the peloton and controlled it. On the way to the 2nd KOM classification 2 Furpachs attacked. On the downhill the two Furpachs managed to get a lead of 2 minutes. But Alkworld wanted the stage win and pushed hard. On the last climb on the first 9% ramp the peloton made bang. In front the 2 Furpachs, then 8 riders with all the yellow candidates. In the battle for white, Modric, Zhu and Taylor could not keep up with Sawchuk's pace. At km 145 Golding continues towards the finish at the speed of light and the next bang - Sanchez (yellow) fell back and immediately opened up 11 seconds on Selassie. This was the chance for Narrenparty to gain a few seconds, but Asfaw no longer seemed strong enough, so Selassie did tempo. Km 150 Golding attacked for the day's victory. Behind them Selassie (tomorrow in red jersey) group with a 9 second lead on Sanchez. In the battle for white Sawchuk was able to gain important seconds on Zhu and will put on the white jersey again tomorrow.

STAGE 15
LOUDENVIELLE - PLATEAU DE BEILLE, MOUNTAIN, 198 KM

Let's look at what happened today. The end result of today's stage looks like the "Plateau de Beille chainsaw massacre".

But from the beginning. The first 6 km are still a relaxed ride with Alkworld at the speed. After the first KOM the Schnuggetto is already put together and all of Hawthorne's (Alkworld) competitors for green are no longer in the front group. After the downhill from Loudenvielle the front is 1:20 on the 2nd group (with Brownie and Bican) and already 4 minutes on the Schnuggetto. What Alkworld is doing now is not only a massacre for the other teams, Alkworld is also massacring its own riders.
KM 37 Nathaniel "Pac-Man" Hawthorne takes the 20 points without resistance. But the massacre must continue, next bang in the front group when Shaw (Alkworld) picks up the pace. Only Bright and Alkworld are represented in the group with more than one helper. Schnuggetto is now 6:38 behind. Up to the 2nd KOM, Shaw (Alkworld) increases the pace twice, the field always has to close the gap. Really tough km for the front group on the Col du Portet d'Aspet.
Schnuggetto 12min at km 53. Oh god, will they stay in the Tour? But the Alkworlds have to continue with the massacre. As if enough wasn't enough, Bright increases the pace at every KOM because of the crappy mountain points.
After the 3rd KOM, part of the 2nd group is able to catch up with the group of favorites. But then an attack by 2 Furpachs for the stage win, perhaps a little too early. That meant Alkworld had to pick up the pace. 2nd group, 4 Alkworlds, 3 zizous, 3 Narrenparties, 3 Brights, 1 Furpach, 3 Schartners, 2 Bon Gamins and 2 Tornados. At that moment the Schnuggetto was 20 minutes behind. Down the mountain at full speed, nobody fell. At the start of the climb Golding (Alkworld) went straight to work. Big bang and all the day's dreams almost shattered.
Situation at km 184: Furpach in front but we knew they wouldn't make it. Behind Golding and Mao(Bright) - behind Sanchez (Yellow), Selassie, Tsepeneag, and Sawchuk(White) - behind them the group Asfaw, Zhu, Wörns, Modric, who had nothing to do with the day's podium. km 186 Mao fell back in Sanchez group - Golding on the way alone to the Furpachs. The Furpachs are passed and Tsepeneag is no longer able to stay with his captain.

Golding (Alkworld) wins with a gap of 1'14''. 2nd Sawchuk (Schartner Bombe) and 3rd Mao (Bright).
Schnuggetto arrived home safely.

1'14'' is a huge gap for the GC - if that happens more often it will be very exciting.
Golding also scored points for the red jersey. Sawchuk really showed off today in the fight for white jersey.
The GC favorites seem to be a bit unsettled.

REST DAY
We met William Golding (Alkworld) as he was preparing for next week and were able to ask him a few questions. He has made his mark on the Tour this week and with his ride yesterday he may have catapulted himself into the GC fight.

Congratulations William, 3rd win overall and 2nd win in a row. You are currently dominating the Tour.

It looks like a good run right now. If Tadej wouldn't have chickened out and riding this fake Tour instead, he could also see my bike from behind!

What was your strategy for yesterday - just ride for the stage win or also a first attack on the GC? 1'14" yesterday was no "lark's fart" as we say in Austria.

Yesterday, the plan for securing points, winning the stage and gain time in GC perfectly fit together, so that's why we rode that way. If the Narren classics would have gone a little slower, there might have been even more activity.

Why do you think the GC riders weren't able to keep the gap small yesterday? What did you notice about your competitors that could play a role for the last week?

A tactical fart on foot of the last climb poisoned them and apparently made them dizzy. It's a complicated threesome situation right now, so it'll depend who is taking a risk for winning the Tour or just sit there and be happy with what they have.

Your colleague Hawthorne is also well positioned for the green jersey, which plays into your hands - will you continue with your "massacre tactics" to get rid of Brownie and Bicon before the IS and to get to the front yourself in the GC?

We'll try to stay in the race for green, but the fight for yellow will be more important in doubt.

Is the momentum on your side after yesterday? And can we expect a large time cushion in GC before the ITT? There are only about 25km where time can be gained on you.

What's an ITT? I never heard of that. We're already in Nice on Saturday, so no need to ride on Sunday :)

Thank you. And back to the commentators. :)
