Valjavec out, the Giro is open again. :D
No, it's sad, really. Looking at old results becomes more and more depressing.

Giro 2008:
1.Contador
2.Ricco
3.Bruseghin
4.Pellizotti
5.Menchov
6.Sella
7.Van den Broeck
8.Di Luca
9.Pozzovivo
10.Simoni
11.Nibali
12.Baliani
13.Valjavec

Or take 2007, Mazzoleni is still in there with a 3rd rank. 4 out of the Top 10 caught by now. Piepoli and Patxi Vila also in the mix.

I'm being subjective, Simoni wasn't caught since 2008, so he's in the non-red column. Red doesn't mean not-clean, just like black doesn't mean clean. You know cycling, it's always complicated. ;)

From Gazzetta dello Sport

A shock confession that reported by the Wall Street Journal and allegedly contained in a series of emails sent to the international cycling federation by the American runner who in 2006 saw the clear victory in the Tour de France because of doping. The UCI has played down media speculation that a type of mechanical doping could already exist in the peloton, saying that there is no evidence that riders are utilising small motors to power their bikes and thus gain an unfair advantage.

Rumours about this have existed in the peloton for several months. However, speaking to Cyclingnews, the UCI’s Enrico Carpani said there were no indications that riders had already tried to use such motors in races.

“We do not have any knowledge if this product is already in use in competitive cycling,” he said. “At this point in time, we don’t have any evidence that leads us to the conclusion that this kind of engine is already in use in the peloton.

Ridiculous. I bet he will make an appeal to be allowed to race in Italy starting May 2011, because he is banned in Italy since May 2009.
