Wilco takes 4th stage win at one of Vuelta's top 3 mountain finals!

Wilco Westermans, who started his career with incredible 2 one day race wins and a mountain jersey, today finally was able after 3 1/2 months of abstinence to achieve his next stage win at Vuelta's stage 15. He is now even in the race for the mountain jersey, maybe we get a shot at it!

Team routinier Renzo Spezilezziatti wins his first stage!

On today's Vuelta stage 19 Renzo Spezilezziatti was sent into the breakaway of the day including three Ceriale riders and him because with only 7 riders left it would've been too hard for us to go for a sprint. After an attack on the general classement by SK Blu-Bardhe and Team ABC-Polsat Ceriale offered a deal that if we could catch up with our help he would give the stage to Renzo. On the last Km we caught up, Renzo easily wins the race. AWESOME!

Wilco Westermans gets mountain classement in a major effort

As it seemed clearer and clearer that Jakub Lewandowski (Team ABC-Polsat) would win Yellow, Green and probably Red, we started to send Wilco into breakaway groups. He was able to win one stage, and today kept his mountain jersey at the last heavy stage against Lewandowski. The team is quite ruined for tomorrow, but still we will try to go for a mass sprint. Maybe with help from Samurais something is possible here.

Gerard lifts five fingers!

Vuelta's last stage to Madrid was another success for Glazemaker. The young belgian sprinter won his fifth stage at the tour lifting 5 fingers into the air to symbolize this on the finish line. A great tour ends with 7 stage wins and a victory in the mountain classification. With Vuelta 2009 (5 stages, points classement) this has been the most successful Grand Tour ever for our team. Awesome!!!!

Wintersted with first victory at Hokkaido Tour

A weak peloton with probably two sprints coming the next days, and Tim WIntersted aswell as Wilco Westermans were attacking at the final 7% climb 17kms before the finish line. In the end only Fabrice Lenain (Kinder-bueno) was able to follow the duo, finishing third. Tim takes his first stage, yellow and green for today, Wilco ends up 2nd.

Glazemaker wins stage 2

On the first real sprint stage at Hokkaido Gerard Glazemaker easily wins. After supporting the sprint Tim Wintersted felt good enough to go for 8th today to hold his points' classement too.

Too many palmares for the title of this report

The last stage at Hokkaido was also a success for our team. Glazemaker won his 7th stage in two months so far, Tim Wintersted was able to keep his yellow and green jersey and Wilco Westermans ended 3rd in the general classement. 3 days for over 700k, if it only was like this always!

Upcoming

With a very successful late summer we have already kept enough distance to the relegation positions. Therefore we will go into races rather cheap for the rest of September, exluding Giro di Lombardia of course. The aim is to make enough money and at least some points to keep looking forward to the higher rankings in Division 1 and stay there until the end of the year, also looking for a good climber in the next weeks or months. Be prepared for a great talent for our 2013 team.

Manager Lizard takes over Belgian national team for world championships

For the upcoming world championships in the Netherlands we take over the management for Team Belgium. Since we don't want to support inactive riders without successes we tried to fit between riders with many palmares and appearances in the last months aswell as possibly best skills within that. Even though a great classic sprinter is available he will miss the race due to inactivity. Too bad! The line-up could be as following:

#1 Zachary Soneau 82-71-60-52-58
#2 Tom van Asbroeck 72-81-79-58-63
#3 Alain Difiston 76-79-70-50-63
#4 Philippe van Gerrewey 73-82-74-56-51
#5 Jeroen Sjoemelen 85-55-74-48-53
#6 Anthony Thys 83-58-77-50-59
#7 Johan Vanelst 73-79-47-50-55
#8 Piet Vanhuis 75-78-58-50-63
#9 Dieter Vanthourenhout 74-81-53-52-67

For the time trial these two riders are 95% sure to ride:

#1 Laurent Desquer 66-53-64-83-48
#2 Franco van den Bliek 56-73-75-85-55

Suggestions are welcome!

Lombardia or Franco Belge?

Even though our priority is surely classic races, we are missing one type of rider to really have a good shot at Lombardia. Since the race could've been won already by Manuel Clausen the team management is thinking about changing the plan to Franco Belge and go for money there, because our very first priority right now is to keep the well team-building 2012 up and ensure we have a squad 2013 which is able to win as many races is possible in the spring and big tours. Decision has yet to be done.

Not riding Lombardia would be SHAMEFUL. No rider to win? So what, try anyway. Group 1? Yes, so Lombardia. Time? If yes, Lombardia. Even if you have only 9 48-75 guys.... But I thought Soneau looks kind of ok for the race anyway?
Kraftsystemrevision! Include the distance!
Basics reform: Give blue a chance!
Don't punish bugusers. We all have to use bugs, since most of them are declared as "features"!
Got a carrot from FL. But they threaten to take it away now.

Well, all in all, I want to win every race. Which basically means if I can do something right now abouth the team of next year, meaning to force me not ride Lombardia since I won it already I might actually be thinking about that! The spring is anyways more important for me, and there I have so far only won one race: Gent-Wevelgem. What about MSR? Okay, I seem to have riders for that. What about LBL? I dont have riders for that. Neither for Amstel. Neither for anything. So why should I not put some pressure on trying to get those victories before I mind another Lombardia win? Just saying. AND you will have to follow me here that I at least make a point on this.

Enzo Gabbana sold, new leader for next month

Enzo Gabbana was never able to pull the flat parts of the races. Starting with 56-71 we were hoping he would go to something like 70-78 which would've been totally fine. But with only 4 flat trainings with that many percentages, uh-uh! Gabbana was sold after his home race Giro die Lombardia and a new rider will join our squad in October. He is from Cameroon, so since a rather long period finally a cameroon rider for the Lizards again. We welcome:

Soneau wins Lazio

After a hilariously bad Giro di Lombardia today we were able to put Soneau on top of the hill finish winning out of a 5-headed group at Giro del Lazio. After 1 1/2 months of no successes, Zack finally was able to win a race.

Just came in

Another hurdle taken on the way to fame. After Soneau's win he did not only take his 11th win, he will most probably overtake Manuel Clausen as all-time most points for Wizards Cycling missing only under 100 points right now. We might have missed the 10.000 points in the current ranking, but with 9.698 we not only stay in Div 1, we also made the most current points for our team aswell as taking over 120.000 points in total which brings the team into the eternal Top 50 of RSF finally, something we wanted to achieve since a long time and was one of the most important goals for 2012.

Wilco ends 3rd

On today's last stage all was set up for Sproles (Password is Bear). He won the stage, but Wilco made a good job on the wheel and finished out of the big classic group as 3rd in the sprint, getting him the seconds he needed to pass Nicolas Legrand (Petit Singe). At least 3rd in overall, yes!

Gerard with top start in Brasil

On today's first stage of the brasilian Tour do Sao Paolo Gerard Glazemaker brings it for his next victory, his 9th all in all now. He takes Yellow and Green for today, but will lose Yellow tomorrow during the ITT. The goal is to get this green jersey and win one or two more sprints here, the start was good already.

Gerard defends jerseys with 2nd stage

On the 2nd stage in Brasil Gerard Glazemaker again outsprints the rest. After a nice coop aswell yesterday as today he was unbeatable for now. We will ride for more sprints surely, but the pressure is gone and we don't need to win another stage, just trying to go save the points' classement. If someone is interested, sitters are needed for Wednesday and Thursday!

Bad news

So, as it looks with a huge change in my private life I don't know if I am able to play this game anymore, most probably only 2-3 days a week, if even so much. Can't even ride the Sachsen-Tour as I wanted to, missed so many stages at Brasil, doesn't look too good. For the moment, I will keep the team, but it looks like the Lizards could be going out of business soon. :(
