August is Benni-month

Stefano Benni, the new Italian star on the Liechtenstein cycling sky, wins his third race in August. In Japan, he was first to cross the finish line at the Hokkaido Cycling Cup, while Unsinn could win the sprint in the first chasing group. This completes a stupendous Team FL performance during August.

Flying from Denmark to Japan cost the Team a lot of energy, especially Niels Hörnö had Problems to leave his home-country. Nevertheless, everyone of the Team FL riders was fit like a "Turnschuh" when the race started. From the beginning, Walter "WaWa" Walch joined the chase in the Peloton to prepare Benni's victory. In the end, it was Benni himself who tried to catch the escaping group before attacking 6 km before the finish. His attack opened the race for others to join his example, luckily without the attendance of stage favorite Bergmann from rastullah. Finally, he caught the km 1 escape-group and got caught by Marley and Galovec who could not follow Benni in the sprint. Thus, Benni won his third race in August, now being officially Benni-month in Liechtenstein.

With 2 65 today, hard to beat you, but Benni's attack was very good, Galovec was good too, but sprint...

Through the Ninth Gate?

Team FL welcomes Victor Fargas. He is the first portuguese rider in the Liechtenstein cycling team and will - besides cycling - take care of the literary circle that Haruki Murakami founded. And people say, something mysterious surrounds Victor...

It is not his look. It is also not his behaviour. Nevertheless, Victor has something that make people think twice. Perhaps it's because he likes playing the violin and his fondness of books, especially about an unknown Italian author, talking about something with 9 and about doors. Anyway, he's not here for entertainment, at least not in the common sense, Victor has been bought for the simple fact that he is already with 21 years very good in riding long distances and recovering from that. And it seems that he likes to commit himself for something (not only books and music). But let's see where our pal comes from. And besides his mysterious... thingy... from time to time, the man born in Sintra seems to be a nice guy. Thus, the whole team gives him a warm welcome and may he lead Team FL to success... or more mystery. Whatever. Finally, here are his stats:

Unsinn rules Ukraine

Xaver Unsinn wins the Ukrainian race from A to B (whatever the city names are...). It's the first race win in September for Team FL and was another good cooperation between the German and his Italian side-kick Stefano Benni.

For once, it was not King Küng who was the rules of the day in a country. This time it was Xaver Unsinn, although it could have been Takashi Murakami or Stefano Benni too. But in the end, Unsinn was the one who followed van Gerrewey's attack and oversprinted the unlucky r Quick team member. Right behind them, Stefano Benni got third, first in the group behind the two of them. Murakami, who already started painting the finish photo, even got 5th in Benni's group after beeing in the escape during the whole stage. In the internal ranking of the classic riders, Benni still leads with 3 to 2 victories against Unsinn. Nevertheless, comparing the two of them would be just nonsense. At least for today, Unsinn rules. Even Küng can handle that (as long as everyone still bows in front of him).

Hole wins Québec!

Harry Hole wins the GP in Québec and for this reason brings the 15th classics win to Team FL which is now (at least for the moment) No. 3 in the eternal ranking of the teams with the most classics wins.

This time it was not Harry Hole who brought the beer for the afterraceparty to celebrate a Team FL victory. This time, it was Stefano Benni himself who organised the celebration event for Harry Hole himself. Together with the rest of the team they raised their glasses for the 15th Team FL classics win. Even former Team FL classics winners like Luigi Mastrangelo, Pedro Garrido or Harald Mühlenberg sent messages to the team management to congratulate. Rumour has it that even Hugo Marxer called from somehwere in East Asia... After Küng's win at Omloop this spring, Québec is the second classics victory this year for Liechtenstein cycling team.

In the meantime, the team management heard rumours that Harry Hole was already drunk before his first beer at the afterraceparty. At the moment, nobody knows exactly where he is and if he is still conscious, but Takashi Murakami, who was following the race from the team car, said, that he will go and have a look, take a picture and paint it afterwards.

Benni wins Lombardia!

With a sensational effort in the finish, Stefano Benni wins the Giro di Lombardia 2012. At the Italian monument he shows his talent once again and collects the third classic win for Team FL in 2012, the 16th overall.

The duo Stefano Benni and Xaver Unsinn was ready right from the start at the Giro di Lombardia. Accompanied by King Küng, Murakami, Hörnö, Bienvenu, Fargas, Schlechter and Walch, they were eager to get a good result at the important Italian autumn classic race. After a soft beginning, the team was challenged by a hard race lead by Wookie. First, the FL helpers could come back once again together with Unicef Pro Team, but at the end, it were only the two leaders in front. So, the team had to decide either to go for Benni or Unsinn. Of course Unsinn wanted to play his advantage in climbing while Benni argumented with his downhill skills. In the end the - only - 24 years old Italian won the battle. Finally, this was the right decision as the result shows.

Benni's glorious victory was the third classic win for Team FL in 2012, the 16th overall. Team FL now collected 4 of the big 5 in cycling. Mühlenberg won MSR, Scholz won Flandern, Braas won Paris-Roubaix and Benni Lombardia, only L-B-L is still missing. Of course with this victory, Benni could be a canditate for Team FL's rider of the year. But there are still three more month to come, first October, a month for the Steinsson brothers, hopefully. Anyway, this will be very hard to top.

Congrats! Nice to see some of the "old" guys (I mean, playing since a long time!) win with riders that are nominally not favourites.

Stefan, Stefano, ... Stéphane!

Having already to Stefan(o)s in the team, Stéphane Antiga will complete the Liechtenstein-Italian-French triumvirat. The 21 yo cyclist is hired as support rider for Benni and Unsinn.

Stéphane has some things in common with his namesakes like good mountain and downhill skill and something not: mainly the sprint skill. Therefore, the young French hill speclist from Suresenes, Hauts-de-Seine, is planned as support rider for the sprint strong classics like Unsinn or Benni. So far, Stéphane seems to be a very friendly and open person with leadership qualities. Therefore, the team management hopes that he will not only support the team leaders with his cycling skills but also with tactical and mental support. Finally, together with Victor Fargas and Walter Walch, he will be one of the most important support riders in the team, especially during hilly races. Depending on his skill developments, he will get his chances for a victory too, of course. Here are his stats:

Äddi Pit, hoi Kenny

On a spontaneous shopping Tour, Team FL buys his second rider for October, young Liechtenstein cycgling talent Kenny Banzer. Meanwhile, Pit Schlechter leaves the team and retires from cycling at the age of 36.

Pit Schlechter was Gilles Braas' tip after the Olympic Games for the small states of Europe. Planned as helper, the Luxembourgian fulfilled his role perfectly throughout his career. At his peak, he was a decent helper for almost every race profile. In 230 races he took back his own ambitions, which were not very high anyway, to support riders like Schmarotz, Hassler, Küng, Garrido, etc. Around 300 eternal points draw the same picture. Anyway, Pit is one of these riders you need in every team to make other riders shine. A role player so to say. And this, Pit did perfectly. So we are proud to give him a last part on the cycling stage today and show his stats:

- Image Pit Schlechter, 36, Flat Specialist

Best skills: 53-81-65-55-44, Pavé 71, Reg 43
Bought: 01.07.2011
Retired: 02.10.2012
Races: 230
Race wins: 0
Eternal points: 292

Oh my god! They bought Kenny! These bastards!

Well, Team FL is guilty of that. Since today, Kenny Banzer joins the Liechtenstein cycling team as prospect rider, trying to become a decent flat rider. Born in Zurich but still a native Liechtenstein citizen, Kenny brings the forward arrogance of this city to Liechtenstein while not knowing much else than riding... flat. But we hope he will be good at that at least. So, we present Kenny:

Unsinn follows Mühlenberg at Beghelli

Xaver Unsinn wins the Italian autumn classic race GP Bruno Beghelli. After Harald Mühlenberg in 2007, he is the second Team FL rider to win this race. The first FL victory in October is Xaver's third one overall.

Stefano Benni and Xaver Unsinn are the Duo Infernale of RSF it seems at the moment. While Benni wins the Lombardia, Unsinn now doubled in Italy when winning the GP Bruno Beghelli. But what is it that the both of them blend so well together? The Team FL PR office, led by William de Worde, asked their team mates and got some interesting answers:

- Stefan Küng: "Well, it's clear. They got me. I am the king. If I want them to win, they win, if not, the don't. The only difficult thing is to deal out the victories equally, so they are both happy, resp. the think it... I am a wise king."

- Harry Hole: "Who blendsss well together? *burp* Ssorry, can't remember..."

- Takashi Murakami: Image

- Jean Ollé Ollé:

- Niels Hörnö: "look at Jean's teeth. Verrry beautiful."

At this stage of the interview, William de Worde decided to stop it and called the answers pure nonsese. Which it somehow really is, the Beghelli victory...

Taverna in yellow

Taverna wins the ITT at the Tour do Brasil and is now wearing the yellow leader jersey. Team FL hopes him to do so at least until Saturday. In the meantime, Bienvenu lost his white jersey of the best youth rider as expected.

While everybody seems to go for Red, Taverna is wearing the yellow leader's jersey after his stage victory at the ITT at the Tour do Brasil. Taverna distanced Johann Martin from rastullah by 8 seconds in the end and has now and advantage of 21 seconds to the big tour favorite Mick Jagger from bergwerk. In the meantime, Henri Bienvenu lost the white jersey of the best youth rider he won yesterday to Christian Seznec from Celtic Club. With Taverna's stage win, Team FL's goals are achieved so far, although another stage win and/or a decent GC placement would be nice too. Or we go for red ourselves...

Ollé Ollé surprises the peloton

With Gaudenz Taverna in yellow, Team FL was happy to work for a sprint royal during stage 4 of the Tour do Brasil. To everybody's surprise, Ollé Ollé won it, despite sprinting against much better riders. Perhaps it was because of Niels Hörnö new toothpaste...

When Jean Ollé Ollé saw his smile in the mirror before stage 4 of the Tour do Brasil, he was delighted. And smiled. He smiled even when the race started. Niels Hörnö did a great job with his new toothpaste and Jean was thankful. Not even did his teeth shine as bright as ever, he also felt a new strength in his legs. Niels is known as an artist when it's up to teeth and Jean has been profiting from it. Or so to say: his smile did, obviously. But this toothpaste was something new. Not as much smiling as Jean, Niels was grinning during the whole stage and worked his ass of during the last two km for his sprint leader. After Jean's surprising victory incl. steeling the backwheel of a 93 Sprinter, he didn't want to comment anything about it. The Team FL management just hopes that Jean keeps up this spirit. Also for Gaudenz, who is still wearing yellow.

Kari rocks Saxonia

When his twin brother Arni got 3rd at the first stage, Kari was motivated enough to win the second stage of the Sachsen Pflaster tour. Although he missed the leader's jersey by only 1 second, Team FL is sure that the team now is motivated too for further decent results.

The Kiesler-twins Arni and Kari Steinsson waited long for this tour. So to say, they we're hot like Geysirs, their heads smoking like Eyjafjallajökull. Maybe it was the smoke from their cigarettes, but officially Team FL has only model professionals in its team. Anyway, they were waiting for a long time for a decent tour on cobble stones, a tour on the rocks. So were Stefan "King" and Harry Hole, although the latter prefers Jim Beam on the rocks clearly. The first stage of the Sachsen Pflaster went pretty well and cosy. A Deuseburger victory was expected but in the end, it were Lesniwski from Team ABC-Polsat and Canteloup from Palm Island who reached the finish line in front, closely followed by Arni. Kari finished the stage in the main group together with his biggest contestants.

So far so good. Same picture today, although now it was Palm Island instead of Deuseburger who dictated the tempo in the peloton, trying to defend the yellow leader's jersey. In the end it worked by 1 second. Simultaneously, Kari won the second stage for Team FL after attacking together with Willy Vandendriessche from r Quick after the last pavé part. So, the tour has started for Team FL too and especially for the Steinsson-twins. Hopefully, they will show their strength again in the upcoming three much harder pavé stages.

Kari wins the Sachsen Pflaster!

Together with his second stage win, Kari Steinsson wins the General and the Points Classement of the for Pavé lovers famous Sachsen Pflaster. It's the first overall victory for Team FL at a pavé tour, after great cyclists like Küng, Braas or Nederlof could only win youth jerseys and podium places. Next possibility to win a tour will be the Tour des Pavés in Januar.

The starting position at the last stage of the Sachsen Pflaster was difficult for Team FL. Kari Steinsson was one second behind Lesniewski from Team ABC-Polsat in the GC while Willy Vandendriessche from r Quick was only 20 seconds behind him. And the strong guys from Deuseburger thirsted after a stage win, esp. with the results from yesterday's stage. An interesting situation that promised an exciting last stage and a decent fight for the GC.

Shortly after the beginning, the big bang followed. Deuseburger attacked with three and in the end with five riders for the stage. In the peloton first ABC and FL then later on Quick chased the group in front with also three Liberty Luna riders and two Wisenhof riders. The decisive moment was km 96 with 7%. First, Wisenhof won the mountain classement on that km with Mermoz, second, and for us much more important, Quick split the main group. After the split, Team FL was suddenly with three riders (Steinsson twins and Harry Hole) in front of all other GC contestants. The rest of the stage was riding, hoping, sprinting (!) and finally celebrating. The perfect finale for Team FL in a very nice last stage.

Benni humiliated

Italian championships, it was clear from the start that Benni would have no chance to win it. So, thanks to my inside knowledge and secret channels into the team from the Fürstentum, I got to know that Mr FL had told Benni only one thing. Beat Trapani. Bennis answer of course was, No, Michele Trapani. I kind of got bored in that conversation, so forgot some of the details, but in the end, it seems Benni finally understood what Mr FL meant. Beat Trapani (well, Benni was right, it's Michele actually) So Stefano gave everything to achieve that goal. Not an easy goal to reach for sure, everybody knew that, but hat off (moment, first have to find a hat and put it on.... damn, I have a cap only.... so cap off) to Stefano for trying. And try he did. He fought like a star (which he isn't) suffered like a poor devil (which he is). But all for nothing. Trapani just couldn't be beaten. Even though Trapanis orders where: Don't care about Benni, just use this as a training ride, keep a close eye on Del Ponte, but otherwise just train. Still, even being beaten by a training Trapani is neither humiliating nor embarassing. But unfortunately Benni wasn't only beaten (logically and as expected) by Trapani, but also by a complete unknown like Luca Palintili. Now that is humiliating. It's sad to see another talent, the first one was me obviously, being wasted in this team. Since Stefano joined Team FL he obviously only has nonsense in his mind, so not winning what he would win in a decent team, like my new team, Petit Singe, for example. I certainly recommend to Stefano, who despite his nonsense-fixation seems a nice enough guy, maybe not as smart as me, (but then who is?), not as talented as me, but still talented enough, not to repeat my mistake and stay at Team FL until the end of his active career. Change now!

Tearful Takashi threatens transfer

Takashi isn't happy today. "What was that? I could have won this with a proper manager! Not a guy who was only there half the time! It's scandalous, after all I did for the team" he told me after the Japanese championships. "I'm a man in high demand, I'll transfer if I don't get a good explanation for this. The ineffectivness of naked dances won't do!" he added, unable to hold back his salty japanese tears. But poor Takashi in his emotional outburst got a few things wrong. First of all the phrasing "I'm a man in high demand" is clearly misleading. A man? Yes he is, but his manhood is not why he is in high demand. By saying man, instead of person, he already offended the new Japanese champion, a chick, we all know they are easily offended. Even in misogynist Japan there will be a backlash. Then, of course, he is in high demand for his painting skills, not his riding. So I highly doubt he can find a new team. I know for sure that my team, Petit Singe, won't hire him. We need a dentist, not a painter, Monsieur Singe barked (or whatever apes do) at me through the phone. NOW. Hörnö? No, a veterinarian, or a guy with experience with animals! Oh, NoPikouze! Not that experience, plus I'm a monkey, not a donkey. Nothing against donkeys, I'm impressed by them too when they're ready for action, think occasionally about getting some experience as well. but I need a guy who can do dental work on me, a monkey, dammit. Then he hung up, our unimpressively hung monkey. And even as a painter, to be honest, like I always am, he (Takashi, not Monsieur Singe, who is just bad) is mediocre. Well, excellent compared to most other artists, designers, but compared to Master Hugo Marxer (that's me), my honest and objective (another quality of mine, I'm always objective, while I know what a subject is, I'm not an egomaniac and think it's all about me, since I'm the subject in every decent sentence, I'm an object man, fully objective all the time, doesn't matter which subject) opinion is: I'm just way better. In another league. Another sphere. Another reality almost. But of course Team FL and sadly most teams here continue to promote mediocrity. My superior talents where never used, while Takashis decent effort is promoted, advertised and praised with almost embarrassing zeal. Or let's cut the almost from that sentence. Be that as it may, and it is like I said, just as a sidepoint, even the reason for Takashis frustration is doubtful. While he certainly would have profited from a better tactician, like me, he just didn't have it to win today. Even the best tactician (Hugo Marxer) couldn't have helped him today. So while his result certainly was disappointing, 6' back and beaten by Ostra Kagawa, he really couldn't expect more than maybe a top 10 placing. As a rider he just is limited.

Hugo Marxer like a prima donna

After his last statements about the National Championships and riders from Team FL, the Liechtenstein cycling team distances itself strongly from its former rider Hugo Marxer, who is still not able to cope with his role he had once being a rider for it, obviously. According to official statements by its rider, mainly Stefano Benni and Takashi Murakami, they were lured with stupid questions by Marxer after the NCs. They reported this immediately to the Team FL management who is now considering legal steps against the former team member. It's not the first time Hugo Marxer bashes against his former team. So far, Benni as well as Murakami made a clear statement for their current membership in Team FL. And just for the record: Also the rumours about Stefano and the team Alkworld are only speculations that might have been brought up by Hugo Marxer himself.

"King" Küng strikes again

For the third time, Stefan "King" Küng wins the Liechtenstein national championships. First it was not clear if Walter Walch would take over the scepter. Finally he decided, that he wants to rule for another round and decided the race for himself. Hail to the King!

While Harry Hole and Xaver Unsinn almost won their national championships, Stefan "King" Küng does not make "almost" things. He does them, and thus, he won the Liechtenstein national championships right before Walter Walch, also from Team FL. This will be his third legislative period, in which he forsees some structural changes for Team FL (although not very much). In the meantime, Stefano Benni and Takashi Murakami have been victims to rumours spread by former team member Hugo Marxer, now employee of the team Petit Singe. King Küng therefore declared Marxer as a persona non grata hafter his victory. Additionally, there will be an entry ban passed eventually against Marxer. Some people even compared him with a certain Mr. Kieber, although this might be a result of exessive emotions. Nevertheless, Team FL is proud to keep the Liechtenstein NC jersey in its team, and invites all other rider to kneel down in front of King Küng.

Hugo Marxer visits Liechtenstein

Today Hugo Marxer arrived back in Liechtenstein, to a heart wearming welcome by the majority of the population. 5000 Fans, a huge crowd in Liechtenstein, waited for him on the bridge over the Rhine, and erupted in spontaneous chants of "Hugo, Hugo" when he crossed over into Liechtenstein from Buchs

Yes, I'm back! After the reaction by Team FL's management to my reports, I decided to confront Team FL directly, I don't accept slanderous comments like " been victims to rumours spread by former team member Hugo Marxer". I never spread any rumours, I will never spread any rumours, what I do as an unpaid service is pointing out problems in other teams, and give career advice to riders with potential like Benni for example. So, I came back to see if Mr FL has the guts to insult me to my face. But after the welcome I got from the fans, starved for success, longing for somebody to bring back success to Liechtenstein, I decided that a confrontation with Mr FL was the wrong approach. Of course my comments about Stefano Benni and the things Takashi told me after the Japanese championships are absolutely true, and I stand by them. But, I asked myself, wouldn't it be better to help people like Benni and Murakami to reach their full potential? One as a rider, the other one as an artist? Yes, it would. And who could do that better than me? Nobody. So, after reaching home and soaking my hands in warm water for a while, giving out 5000 autographs is hard work, I sent my resignation email to Mr Singe. Now, I'm ready for new work. If Mr FL is serious about keeping Benni (who seems close to signing with Alkworld), all he has to do is contact me, offer me a contract, and I'll be happy to help Benni achieve countless wins in the next months. If Mr FL on the other hand isn't man enough to do that, I'll be happy to work with Benni as his agent (but I would advise him to change team, but not Alkworld, tschiepi is the team that offers him the best opportunities), and give Takashi some private lessons as his art teacher.

Hugo! I especially recommend him as a flat coach. Hate it that he left now that I think of it... Yamada and Häfeli both to 88 from 72, yeah! He thinks a lot of himself, good old Hugo, but is actually a competent guy! Good luck in FL for him again.

Taverna wins Moldova

First stage race in November, first Team FL victory: Gaudenz Taverna wins the final ITT and the General Classement in Moldova after technical problems during stage 2.

November started with a 4 stages tour in the South East of Europe in Moldova. Ollé Ollé and Unsinn were responsible for the stage results while Gaudenz Taverna was the leader for the General Classement. The goal to win the tour was almost over after stage one when Taverna's biggest opponent could get 2 seconds of time bonification. At least, Ollé Ollé almost won the first stage, only bad luck could prevent his victory. Stage two then was a desaster when the organisational comitee of the tour decided to stop after 93 km because of technical problems, only to continue it at night when almost everybody except four riders was asleep. The OC then decided to cancel stage two and thus steal Unsinn the opportunity for a stage win and Taverna to win back some time in the GC. Anyway, Saturday worked well and after Sportsfreunde dominated the stage result, Team FL was able to get Taverna an advantage for the final ITT where he could distance his main rivals and won the GC with a four seconds advantage.
