Welcome to the game!
From personal experience, I suggest looking for a mentor to guide you through the first few months, to learn about teambuilding, tactics etc.. You can look for a mentor here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=123 .
In the meantime, you can either choose to draft an auto-team, which will be good enough to get some top 10's (or better), or wait to gain some insight into building your own team from scratch and riding some races.
