LA VUELTA 2024

Post by Gipfelstuermer » Mon Jul 08, 2024 11:34 am

Thread for designing/discussing the Vuelta 2024 route.

Profiles on the website and on La Flamme Rouge, but not sure that these are final. IS are missing, but overall info seems good enough to start designing.

Roadbook not published, either, so points system not yet clear. They kept changing it around in recent years. We will see.

stages on La Flamme Rouge are still with stage accuracy status of Reconstruction because there aren't even maps on the official website, so we need to conaider how fast these profiles can be designed to see if we should start with these profiles or wait for the stage maps and Flamme Rouge to adjust their profiles

Before the design starts, I was wondering something of the classification of the stages (flat/medium/high mountain). The organizers classification is ... total crap.
Do we respect it still ? Or do we change it to what makes sense to us ? If we adapt it, it might open the green jersey fight to more riders that if we don't, that's why I ask. And it will also look more normal to us.

Last years the roadbook had different points than the stage catgeories and the points are whats important for us. So possibly we need to change it then

More detailed profiles now on: https://www.lavuelta.es/
Roadbook: https://storage-aso.lequipe.fr/ASO/cycl ... vil-v3.pdf

If I understand it correctly, they have some IS with Bonus Seconds and some without.
Same for some KOMs.
The race will award 10, 6 and 4 seconds to the first three
riders in each stage (except timetrials), and 3, 2 and 1
seconds to the first three riders to complete each one of the
nine intermediate sprints and the ten bonus sprints located
on ten different uphills.
Will try to implement that. For the design just ignore the "B" in the Vuelta profiles.

Only this:
In La Vuelta, riders do not only fight for the overall leadership
but also to be first in the points classification. Points are
obtained through the following system: the winner of a flat
stage will be awarded 50 points, the winner of a hilly stage
will receive 30 points, the winner of a mountain or an ITT
stage will get 20 points. Intermediate sprints award 20, 17,
15, 13 and 10 points to the first five riders
So I guess your post from last year still correct.

Yep :D They are real experts :D

I created the 'frame' in the race editor using the following logic:

Flat = Flat
Hilly = Hilly
Medium Mountains = Hilly
Hilly. Uphill Arrival = Mountain
Mountain = Mountain
ITT = ITT

We can check once they published the "REGLAMANTO" like in 2023.

Anyway... let's worry about that later.... right now 0 / 21 Profiles designed....

La Flamme Rouge already has profiles, are they not accurate, does anybody know that? Roadbook seem quite detailed but looks like a lot of work to design from scratch?

they are reconstructed, probably also reconstructed using the roadbook info, before you start doing that yourself i would go with the flamme rouge gpx data, waiting for official gpx data is possibly to late then

Flammerouge is definitely not the correct one. I'm doing the last week myself from the roadbook and map on the website. Should at least be a bit closer to what is actually going to be ridden

It is a complete mess. Even on the Vuelta site, there are different values given for climb details! For stage 10 Flammerouge was quite accurate imo. But didn't check too closely yet.

To complete the mess, with version 1.30.9 you can now start including the following intermediates with bonus seconds as opposed to the 'normal' ones being without bonus seconds.

AdditionalIntermediate1 = 1B
AdditionalIntermediate2 = 2B
AdditionalIntermediate3 = 3B
AdditionalIntermediate4 = 4B
AdditionalIntermediate5 = HCB
AdditionalIntermediate6 = SB

This only works with "vuelta" in the profileCode, but it should generate a nice profile image and everything now :)

On lavuelta.es you see if a KOM/IS is with/without bonus seconds by looking for a larger B in a circle. I think usually it is one B per stage.

Okay will also post my stages here with some important notes (mainly for my future me)

Stage 10
Used the GPX file from LFR. Compared the km values of special points (KOM, city passes) between the roadbook and the LFR profile, which looked quite accurate. Adopted the climb percentage.
Image

Stage 11
GPX file from LFR far off. Had to redo it based on the roadbook and endet up very accurate (36,7 lap is hard to finish exactly). Adopted climb percentage (needed to be done before adding the lap). Please check round course.
Image

Stage 12
Complete redesign, last climb checked!
Image

Stage 13
Designed from roadbook, climbs checked
Image

Stage 14
Took the LFR GPX file as it looked accurate enough, checked climbs
Image

Stage 15
Another (half) circuit in between. Designed from roadbook, climbs checked

yes, 1-4 are KOM 1-4, 5 is KOM HC, 6 is IS (at least that is what gets displayed when you enter it, if thats not how it supposed to be GIP needs to tell us/update)

It's not my idea, it's the idea of the A.S.O. (race organisers of Vuelta).

They have some KOM & IS with bonus seconds (marked by B), and some KOM & IS without bonus seconds (no B).
