My 2 Asian races for the off-season (If there's more needed in some region, AAD should mention it in that nice thread!)

Sihanoukville-Kep


Start in Sihanoukville named after the former king, prime minister, head of stage, leader in exile, king again and I probably missed a few stages of his life. He doesn't seem to have any special connection to the place though. It's located on a hilly peninsula, and we take advantage of that and spend the first 40+ km in long loops around the city to get 3 short climbs, 2 at 7% and the last one at km 41 at 6%. After that it's all flat for 120km until the finish, but the hill sprinter teams can try to split and drop the sprinters early, but most likely will be a just a big effort for nothing. Unless of course Messerli or Gabel are there, Mobster used to love to drop them at 100km and never let him back. Grrr.
Anyway, we then first head northeast on a highway, then go back to the sea, pass the Damrei mountains (Elephant mountains) with Bokor Hill station on the south, through Kampot for an intermediate, then finish in Kep, a city that used to be a very popular tourist destination, the Côte d'Azur of Cambodia. Like much of the country it suffered a lot under the Khmer rouge, destruction of colonial buildings the least of their crimes though, it has been recovering since then and is getting tourists again now.

Mong Cai-Dongxing



Start and finish a few hundred meters apart, but we don't cross the border directly but ride upstream along the Ka Long river. Around km 40 the road leaves the river and goes up the hills up to 900 meters above sea level, going down again after, crossing the river at km 79/80, where the 2 intermediate sprints are. On the Chinese side we cycle downstreams along the Beilun river. Same river, this time we use the chinese name. 2 hills this time, the first one we could have followed the river, the second one like on the vietnamese side can't follow the river, probably a sort of canyon there? No clue. A final 6 at km 147 will make it hard for hill sprinters, so should be for classics with sprint, or really strong hill sprinters maybe. Löffel yes, Merlier no basically

Mediterranean! Ok, usually avoid designing European races for Winter, but this year it's Mediterranean, so this year I include it in my 2 races per region. (Doesn't mean they have to be raced this winter, all Donks races are ok for the vault too)

Laghouat-Ghardaïa

197 km
A highly exciting race, people will hopefully love it. Landscapes! From the oasis of Laghouat through the desert to the famous and spectacular oasis of Ghardaïa. Critics might claim the race itself promises to be less exciting, we'll see, but anyway, it's the fascinating desert landscape that is the big draw here (so that we can enjoy that better the last 29km will be ridden in mintact) And the contrast to the bustling oasis.



Tanger-El Jebha

200km, 9 riders.
Many short hills, but none of them classified to avoid the classic mass attack in the early phase of the race. The hills start early, km 14, 20, then after km 44 (only 6 6 then 4 4) the race calms down, we pass Tétouan and go to the coast again. 4 siebable hills (1 km at 6%+ each) and another short flat part near the second sprint of the day. 2 hills, one with 2 km over 6% this time, then the last 10km flat before the big final, starting right after the last sprint of the day. 6 hills in 45 km, only the first one with 2 km over at 6%+. The final 4 km then mostly flat, last km at 0%.

180 km, 9 riders, mintactt 150, flat.

2 climbs, 1km at 10, 1 km at 6, should be doable for sprinters.

Eastern Region Cycling Cup

201 km, 9 riders, mintact 166, hilly


Hard start from the shore of Lake Volta, we go straight into the hills, from km 2 a 6 9 6 climb. Then we go back down to Lake Volta along it's shore until we leave it for the very hilly middle part. The final then is the last 3 big hills, but actually they only have one siebkm each, 7, 8 and 7. Then downhill to the state capital and the finish at -2. 201 km, so over the UCI approved limit of 200 for races that aren't of higher category, but we got a special permission for it, so should be ok at c4f too.

180 km, 8 riders, mintact at 150

Karnatka, highly upset about their neighbours competing in the December Tour now gets a one day race. From the Coast, Magaluru, to a hill station named Chikkamagaluru, from their further up near a mountain called Baba Budangiri, pass one of the parking spots and go a bit further. First climb the hardes, 6 km at 6% or more, the 2 final climbs are easier, 2 km at 6% on the first one, 1 km at 7% at the bottom of the second one. Last 2 km -5-2 So for strong classics with downhill



188 km, 9 riders, mintact at 144

Twice the climb from Tirupati to Tirumala, at the start and at the end. The climb not overly hard, 2x6%, but an 8 just before the downhill starts.
The middle climb nothing at 6% or mroe.

172 km, this one too hard for flat sprinters, it's for hill sprinters, so failed in what I tried to do. But maybe one day races for hill sprinters might be useful too.

Cochabamba, Bolivian cobblestones!!!
165 km, 9 riders, mintact at 128

Quite nice ones around, mostly ** to ****. In some places dirt, then *. Dirt, not dirty. Dirt as in gravel. Not dirty as in not cleaned.
Old google street... probably by now quite a bit of this pavé is gone, as I realized half way through (which for a pavé races is probably 90 min, took forever...) when I saw that Google street was from 2015 and a new pic somebody took near a road showed a perfectly fine paved (as in asphalt) road.... bah.

A +10 at km 77. And then a +5**** at km 153. Risks being decisive, after having mostly flat pavé before, there's another 5** at km 48. Only 5 km with pavé after that 5****, -2***, -2** the 2 following km, 157-158 are -2*** and 0****, then 160 0***. And 5 flat km to the finish.

Rating probably influenced by light and in the end tiredness, some stuff looked hard, some stuff probably looked roughly the same but got a different rating. Length though plays into it, the first **** is because it was 1.3km..

No need to program it soon, can stay in the vault until next year in case you have enough South American pavé.

Ah, instead of this weird "bonification" somebody tell the programmers that it should be "type of race" and that flat pavé and hilly pavé should be there to choose too. I suspect would make AAD's job much easier.

Chhattisgarh

5 5 6 6 at the GPM, otherwise nothing siebable, so should be an easy sprint.

Jharkhand Cycling Cup

182 km, classified as flat, 2 hills, the second one only with a single 6. First one with an 8 and finishes with a 10.

West Bengal Cycling Cup

158 flat km, late IS, 1 early one. 9 riders. Bakkhali in the Sunderbans, but the developed not Swampy part, so Tiger encounters are not that likely. There's crocodiles too though



Sikkim Cycling Cup

184km, 9 riders, mintact at km 154

Steep first climb, up 12xx meters in 15km$
Second climb easier, 600 meters in 14 km, only 6 km at over 6, 4 of them in the first 5 km.
After the long downhill, the third and steepest climb starts, going up 700 meters in 5 km. another 350 in the next 5.
The cat 4 at Rumtek then is hardly worth a GPM, only one km over 6,
Down to Ranipool, basically a suburb of Gangtok, the state capital, which we can't visit since it would have made the stage too long,
Shortly after Ranipool we start the last climb of the day, to Pakyong, where Pakyong airport, the only airport of Sikkim is located. Another comparatively easy climb, followed by a long downhill and the final mostly flat, but with the occasional steeper downhill km to Rangpo.
Should for strong classics or 80-70 more than for pure climbers after the hellish climb that tops out at km 113 there might be too little climbing left for pure climbers. And while not much, still too much flat.

Meghalaya Cycling Cup

193 km, hilly, 9 riders, mintact at km 154.

Start in Mawsyram at 1400 meters above sea level. One of the wettest places on earth. Downhill to the border with Bangladesh, from there on it's hilly.



Assam Cycling Cup

191km 9 riders, mintact at 160

At the start we go down to the Diyung River, the race could also be called Diyung River Cup realy, and cross it, back up on the other side. Until Gunjong there's 4 km above 6%, 3 after the crossing, one shortly before Gunjong.
We cross the river back to the left side at km 49, without anything above 5% in the climb up, next crossing at 60 is a tributary river, here an 8% km follows. Then at km 81 after following the river a few km, we leave it without crossing, 2 km at 6%.
Our last view of the Diyung River will be at km 113, where we cross it, shortly before it flows into the bigger Kopili River.
From there it's all flat till Nagaon, where we'll see if the 100 km after the last difficulty were enough for the flat sprinters to come back.

Tripura Cycling Cup

189 km, 9 riders, mintact km 160

Flat, 4 hills, there's a 6 on the penultime one, should otherwise max 4



168 km, 9 riders, hilly, mintact at km 138

Hilly, but certainly not HC.

Start in Lunglei, second biggest town of Mizoram after Aizawl it seems. Seems strange, looking at the map would guess Siaha, where we finish, is bigger. Which it probably is, at least the "center", actual town. Fastest growing town in Mizoram according to Wikipedia, gaining 10'000 in a 7 year span from 2001-2008. Hopelessly outdated info. Anyway, rather irrelevant.
In Lunglei first we do a lap, ride through town on the main road, leave it towards west, climb back up, then take a parallel road below the ridge (the main road seems to be rather exactly on the ridge) on the east and go through town again there. 3 km at 6% or more in that lap, uncleaned, that means they might not really be there but just be strange readings. But google street being kind of usable there at least it looked like climbs, so might be ok. Another 6 at km 73 (uncleaned again, here probably simple GPS problems, but it's off so often seem to have missed to control that one, so it stays, then 7 and 6 at km 98+101. (cleaned!, IMO something should be there) That's it, no more siebable climbs. In the final climb to Siaha there's 3 km at 5%, then never more than 4. Last 4 km all at 4%.



Manipur Cycling Cup

197 km, 9 riders, flat, mintact at km 168

Hoping to bring peace to Manipur after the ethnic violence that broke out there this summer, we ride in Manipur too.
Start in the south, close to the border to Mizoram, Khuanggin, a tiny village on the banks of Tuival river welcomes the c4f peloton for the start. 4 classified hills follow, the 2 cat 3 have 3 km at 6% or more each, the cat 4 only 1. After km 102 the sprinters have quite a bit of time to attempt to come back. One intermediate, in Churachanpur. Or Lanka, as we've called it in the profile. We decided to use the name the local population, the Kuki prefer, not the one that India or Manipur, dominated by the Meitei in Imphal impose on them. Not sure that will help bring peace to the region, but why not.

Nagaland Cycling Cup

184 km, 9 riders, mintact at 154, hilly

From Kohima to Chantongya, the latter a small place. Hilly race, but only 3 siebable climbs in the last 50 km, an 8% at the entrance of Mokokchung, then a 6 at km 161, followed by 5 4, then a 7 at km 175, that one probably the decisive km then. If riders have downhill, last 2 km then at -1. The hardest part is in the middle, that's where the first selection will have to be made.



Arunachal Pradesh Cycling Cup

201 km, 9 riders, mintact at 170.
HC stage, but normally should be a classic or 80-70 winning. It starts tough, from Bomdila to the Bomdila Pass, 7 8. 2600 meters above sea level. A downhill to 1450, then a short hill with a 7% before the first intermediate at Dirang.
The climb to Sela Pass starts soon after, we leave the river valley at km 63, but it's steep already before. Steep, but never very steep. In the 52 km from km 52 to 103, we only have 15 km that are 6% or 7%. We reach the top at 4184 and then have a 45km downhill to 2000 meters. From there it's hilly. After crossing the river we go up the side of the valley, back up to around 2500, 2530 to be precise where the last GPM of the day is. From there the road is built more or less at that height, between 2530 and 2330 We don't go right up to Central Tawang, the actual town or city at km 169, but continue straight on the road to Lumla. We have 3 more km going up at 6% in the last 30 km, the last one at km 192

162 km, 9 riders, mintact km 132.
Completely flat

Bihar Cycling Cup

146km, 9 riders, mintact at 116. Max +1/-1

We start in Sasaram on the iconic Great Trunk road, fortunately it will be close to traffic. We'll follow the GTR km 113,5, where we leave it and head north to Gaya. The finish on a 0. Since Bihar is the poorest state in India, no intermediates sprints.




Uttar Pradesh Cycling Cup
176 km, 9 riders, mintact at 146. Start and finish in Agra, in front of the Taj Mahal. A early circuit to Firozabad and back, at km 96 we pass in front of the Taj Mahal, and from there we have countless laps until the end. Lots of money on the road, I'm not sure they are aware that the main entrance to the Taj Mahal will be closed and they might not manage to get all the visitors in...



Uttarakhand Cycling Cup

175 km, hilly, 9 riders, mintact at 134

Start in Dehradun, the winter capita and biggest city of this fairly young state, it only split from Uttar Pradesh in 2000. After 40 km the climbing starts, but as often seems to be the case in India on major roads, the road is not overly steep, the 25km climb has only 6 km at 6% or more. Downhill, up again, 4 sieb-km to Chamba. Down to the Tehri Dam Reservoir, a pretty big, long reservoir, built at the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Bhilangna River. We follow the Bhagirati part upstream, which is flat since it's a reservoir nowadays. The road though still goes over 2 siebable hills, last difficulty of the day then is km 174, 5% followed by a -2 in the last km. Possibility for classics with less sprint for a last attempt to drop the sprinty classics.

Himachal Pradesh Cycling Cup

151 km, hilly, 9 riders, mintact at 120

Start in Parwanoo, basically a long climb to Shimla, in 2 steps. We reach Shimla after 92 and a grand total of 4 siebkm. From there we do 4 different laps around Shimla. 6 further siebkm until the end, 5 of them in the last 30 km, the last one at km 137.
Finish is 3 4

Testing the changes in the editor with another Indian Cycling Cup

Jammu and Kashmir Cycling Cup 184 km, mintact km 154, hilly.



Start in Srinagar first one lap around the lake, then we go northwest to get some hills, first one has 1 km at 6, the second one 4, which should eliminate the flat sprinters. Back to Srinagar and another lap around the lake. From the end of the downhill to the finish it's 50 km, 1 -2, mostly 0, a few 1 and -1. But difficult to be enough for the flat sprinters.

Being at altitude, this, and other northern Indian races too, would actually better not in the offseason. Snow and stuff.

Ladakh Cycling Cup

Ladakh, so of course we go to the highest paved pass in the world. No, not Khardung La, that was never the highest pass in the world, Umling La is, pretty uncontroversial right now. Well, pretty, not completely. According to India it's 5883. Seems to be clearly lower, the RKL reading of 5810 is even a bit higher than what some guy that was there posted. 5790 something it was according to him, but can't find where I read that anymore, other parts of his site show the official height. So anyway, most likely it's +/- 5800, and most likely India knows about some higher roads just north of the border in China, so made it artificially higher like they did with Khardung La. But paved, pretty sure this is indeed the highest paved road in the world, Chinese military roads are generally unpaved. Already found one that is probably higher than Umling La (5808 but as expected unpaved) So, highest paved road of the world!

We start in Hanle, at 4252 meters above sea level and first cross the Photi La. 552x officially. The pass is still unpaved on top, and the downhill as well, but the first part is paved. There's 5km at 6% and 5km at 7% in the 27km climb. The 7 are a series shortly before the top, in the unpaved section. Which we assume will be paved when we ride this. Even if we don't actually believe it...
After the downhill the road in the valley should be paved by now, not on google earth images from 2011, partly on those from 2020. Then at km 66 the turn off to Umling La. The road isn't all that steep, but considering the altitude steeper than I expected. But ok, the readings from google earth were a bit doubtful at times, 2 9 2 or similar a few times, corrected such things to be closer to what they probably are in reality. Km 70-71 6-7, then it's only the last 9 km that are steeper again, 6-7-9-8-5-6-6-3, before that it's lots of 4s

A short race, due to the altitude we decided we didn't want to kill our riders due to lack of oxygen (and as important, the route that would have been nice is 250km long, so..)

Anyway, this should be ridden between May and September, that's what Dheeraj Sharma recommends too.

Umling La won't hold the title of "highest motorable pass" (which it should never have gotten, it's not even a pass I think, the pass is lower than where they pass (what a pun!) or "highest paved road" for long, the INdians are already planning a higher one, Fukche Road.

Ha, there was the 19024 feet reading even officially again, saw it somewhere else, not the 19300 they are peddling now. Ultimate proof that there are higher ones in China. Motorable, but not paved.

Punjab Cycling Cup



198km, flat, no climb over 4%. So the scary hill around km 90 is really nothing. Start in Pathankot, finish in Amritsar at the entrance of the Golden Temple, we go through the pedestrian zone, 2 sharp bends there, risk of crashes maybe. 9 Riders, 30 km mintact as usual.

Haryana Cycling Cup


167km, flat, 2 km at 5%, 1 km with * (could be 0 too). 9 riders, 29km mintact. Should be a straightforward sprint.
We start in Faridabad, south of Delhi, then ride in Haryana but always close to the border to Delhi, go around Delhi on the western side and in the end go a bit further north. Bad air to be expected for this race.

169km 9 riders, hilly mintact km 140. Start and finish in Udaipur, 2 early km at 8% and 6%, 23+32, then nothing until the finish, a 10% at km 135, followed by 2 km at 6% at km 146 and 150. Downhill and flat until the finish, +1 in the last km.

Gujarat



186 km, 9 riders, flat. mintact at 156
Biggest danger to the riders is a -2 somewhere, 15 meters down in 1km! Besides this dangerous downhill there's nothing to worry about, 4 intermediates. last km at 0%

Madhya Pradesh Cycling Cup



177 km, flat, 9 riders, 146 mintact.

Mostly very flat, the 2 climbs both have a +6 in them, but with 50km to go after the second one normally flat sprinters should be ok, although some older ones who don't digest climbs that well anymore might be dropped to far behind...

Maharashtra Cycling Cup



176 km, hilly, 9 riders, mintact at 146.
We start in Mumbai, first climb the Malabar Hills, cat 4, but it's hardly a climb that will make differences. Then we head east to Pune. We climb the Western Ghats, to reach the Deccan Plateau. The climb is hard, surprisingly, since our road seems to be a major road. 4 8 11 9 7 4 4. There is another short climb,m 11% at km 113, after that it's flattish, often little hills at 2-3. Last kms are 2 3 -5 -1 -1

Getting there, only 3 Indian Cycling Cups left, finally... Indian races for the next 10 years!

Flat, 174 km, max 5%, 1 km... 9 riders

Ribadeo-Gijon


150 km, flat, 9 riders
Flat too, but actually hilly. But flat at c4f because only 3 km are at over 6%, the 3 cat 4 GPMs, 6% 6% 8% The rest up to 5%.

Usually try to make 2 profiles per country... but for Andorra I'll leave it at 1

165 km, 8 riders, mintact at 134. 4 climbs, the categorized ones, at 6% or more. The cat 3 is 10%. Last hill is 5 4.



176 km, 8 riders, the cat 4 climbs have a siebkm. Should be an easy sprint, even if it goes up and down at lower percentages quite a lot. A final circuit around Brest with a 5% at the beginning.

178 km, hilly, 9 riders. mintact at km 142

The early cat 3 is 7 7, after that it's single km at 6% or more, mostly 6 actually. Last one at km 160, almost no flat after that, but max 4%. Hill sprinters or classics.

Goa Cycling Cup
186 km, flat, 9 riders, mintact at km 154
The smallest state of course gets its Cycling Cup too. Start in Margao, head south, a loop back north and finish in the north in Vasco da Gama. 4 hills with siebs, the last one at 155, so 30 km to come back, should still be possible.



Kerala Cycling Cup.
201 km, 9 riders, hilly. From km 55 to 150 we do part of stage 11 of the Tamil Nadu&Kerala International Cycling Race. Should be for classics, the toughest part of course climbers look good, but after we leave the route of the Dec Tour stage, it becomes easier, more flat parts in between climbs. 166-167: 14 6. 10 km later 10 6 11 km later 5 7 8, then at km 200 a 6, followed by a -2 in Kattappana



Last, Tamil Nadu Cycling Cup

177 km, flat, 9 riders, mintact at 148

Start in Nagercoil or Nagarkovil, then we head south to Kanyakumari, southernmost point of the Indian subcontinent. Northeast then, along the coast, before we go back west, go into the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve for our final climb. Max 4, so no problems for sprinters, finish at the Karaiyar Dam, last few meters are up, so the finish at +2
